Mayuka may not be available for Cape Verde game

Zambia national team striker Emmanuel Mayuka may not be available for selection for the game against Cape Verde on Monday after he suffered a groin injury in the game against Tunisia on Thursday evening.

Team Dr Joseph Kabungo reported that he cannot tell yet if the striker will be fit to play on Monday.

“I can confirm that Mayuka had a groin injury yesterday and was rushed to the hospital where he was treated and discharged,” Kabungo said.

“As for whether he will be able to play on Monday or not, I cannot tell. We need 24 to 48 hours to make that decision,” Kabungo added.

Dr Kabungo however said Evans Kangwa, Kennedy Mweene and Given Singuluma who also suffered knocks in the game against Tunisia will recover in time for the game on Monday.

Mayuka scored Zambia’s only goal of the match in a game the Chipolopolo lost 2 – 1 but was rushed to hospital after he injured himself in a desperate attempt to convert an inviting Rainfor Kalaba cross.

Zambia have to win the game against Cape Verde on Monday to stand a chance of qualifying though they will be hoping Tunisia does not lose to Congo DR.

  1. Even without Mayuka, I am still defiant we can still clobber Cabo Verde. What is important is the approach to the game and the mental strength of the team. This is the game that our boys should show character.

    • BRA i understand yo point but dnt u think mayuka despite missing alot of chances in dat game had kept da tunisian defense busy?hav u realised that da moment he got injured dat was da downfall of our team?jackson mwanza failed to do wat mayuka was doin hence we ended up losing

  2. I feel it in my guts, the lads will show true character against Cape Verde and will come out victorious ,elo ya yam ba bola nomba.Come what may Cobo Verde you are going doooooooooooooooooown boys.

  3. Mayuka wasted a lot of chances let him recover from injury he can start on the bench we have plenty of fire power to beat cape Verde. Lubambo musonda, kalaba and singuluma hold the key.

    • Agree John, I also think Chisamba should be benched for the fact that he is careless and cost us a game late AFCON and almost cost us game against Zaire. He’s needs to mature and realize that we need to depend on him as well and not be a suspect. Just my opinion.

  4. Ghana have exhibited a fighting spirit that I would like to see in our team. Ghana have never say die attitude. Janza’s behaviour is shameful when he says zambia have a slim chance of qualifying. Zambia just has to beat cape Verde and qualify. We don’t want him talking negatively like that he must qualify.

  5. If DRC beat Tunisia even just by a single goal its game over even if we beat cape Verde by a cricket margin… Because it will come to head-head
DRC head to head with Tunisia DRC wins then Tunisia zed head to head Tunisia wins
But Tunisia will not sit and relax because they know if they lose and cape Verde wins then they are out that’s why we must win and wait for the result in the other game…

  6. Leo has hammered the nail on the head. Tunisia cannot afford to lose to drc they need a point at least to guarantee qualification. As a consequence zambia should not worry about that game but focus on beating cape verde at all costs. I am certain if zambia beats cape verde we are through. Tunisia will not lose to drc these Arabs are fighters.

  7. Wishing our ZAMBIAN comrades all the best. A positive attitude is all that the playing body should possess
Although Ghana has jumped the first hurdle, objectively, South Africa is playing the best game in the group. They are more cohesive than any team l have watched at this Afcon & to my thinking they deserve to be the champions this year. Their 1-3 loss to Algeria was painful especially after the penalty miss which could have given them a 2-0 advantage. Bafana Boys – work strenuously hard against us & you may clinch the trophy. YOU ARE INDEED GOOD. Your confidence is amazing. Ball control in midfield is perfect and the strikers give defenders a run for their worth.

  8. Iam a Zambian fun but i totally agree Ghana is a strong tearm. They have a fighting spirit & they ar mature in the way they handle the game.zambia must humble themselves & learn from them.

  9. Ghana paradox you are very right on RSA but one thing I hv observed even for Zambia is that we can’t hold th lead or add more goals,it all goes down to inexperience on both team n coaches,th best quality at tournaments is to defend your lead….if we can score n guard our lead then we cn go a step further in tournaments
