Lwandamina is matured unlike some…as Charles Musonda lifts the lid

Former Zambia international midfielder Charles ‘Charlie Cool’ Musonda has wondered why the Football of Zambia, FAZ went on to announce that his son, Charly Jnr has been invited by interim Chipolopolo Boys coach George ‘Chicken’ Lwandamina without even informing him first or talking directly to the player.

And the Zambian legend has said he ‘respects Zambian’ contrary to reports that he is unpatriotic.

“I always talk to Lwandamina, we have been friends since Zambia Schools [but] the call he made surprised me,” the former Mufulira Wanderers midfielder wrote on social media.

“I have great respect for him [Lwandamina] and I will continue to be his friend [but] I know if he really had to make a decision like that he was going to call me and talk, like we always do while I am in Ndola visiting.

“I would have known if it was serious,” Musonda wondered if the call up was genuine or not.

“I am old school guy…. a spade is a spade, you can’t win a race without starting. He’s [Lwandamina] matured unlike some. He’s open minded, ” Musonda lifts the lid on his long standing feud with his one of his former Mufulira Wanderers teammate.

Musonda, then went on further to explain his passion of representing the KK11 as the Zambia national team was called them.

“I respect Zambians. I have known through FB [facebook] Gentlemen the truth is in front of you and it’s behind me… open your eyes don’t despise what you love and that is football, regardless.

FLASHBACK: In the 80s, Kalusha Bwalya and Charles Musonda were Zambia’s symbol of present and future.

“It’s been long overdue, most of you don’t understand the pride of playing for the nation, I do. Calling me unpatriotic guy is fine because you have no idea how people turned against me, for that reason alone I forgive most Zambians who talk trash, but don’t dare start talking about me again in a negative way,” Musonda revealed.

“I have gone through that phase. I was part of Zambian football long time ago, did everything right until my time come abruptly and my career was over.

Musonda went on to imply that in a scenario that his son, Charly Jnr didn’t cut it as footballer he could have been one of the many forgotten former internationals like Stone Nyirenda and Lucky M’siska

“Thank God he opened another door for me. Most former Zambian international players are not considered in an case and I am part of that category,” the former Anderleicht midfielder  said.

He then took a swipe at ‘some people’ probably his former teammate.

“I have limits and I’ve limited myself knowing I never contributed enough for the nation because of my injury but some people took advantage of that situation to damage my image beyond.

“Only reasonable Zambian people who knew me personally are with me.

The Mufulira native ended with what could have been of him if he played in this era.

While FAZ President Kalusha ‘Great Kalu’ Bwalya went to be named the 1988 African Footballer of the Year thanks to that hatrick against Italy at the Seoul Olympics, Charlie Cool provided three assists in that game.

In terms of the all time Zambia greats, Charlie Cool, Great Kalu, Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu, Alex ‘Computer’ Chitalu and Godfrey ‘Ucar’ Chitalu are among the top 10 legends.

“Imagine if the media and coverage of sport was like it is now during our time. I would be the most adorable Zambian if you know what I mean. That’s my Mufulira Sec School English lol. My classmates used to call me.. the best absentee and I loved it hahaha..

“If only I was still involved in Zambian football not as a hero but to help others become heroes.. I rest my case.

Sports Minister Vincent Mwale linked up with the Musondas in London in January.
Sports Minister Vincent Mwale linked up with the Musondas in London in January.

Meanwhile Sports Minister Vincent Mwale, who recently met the family in England, supported Lwandamina’s decision to invite the player.

Mwale said in an interview with the Zambia Daily Mail in Lusaka yesterday that he had a fruitful meeting with the Musonda family where they discussed among other things how the former national team midfielder could contribute to the development of football in Zambia.

He said both Charles and Angela are patriotic Zambians and Charly junior would play for Zambia if it was up to them.

“I support what Lwandamina has done to call Charly because as a country, we must show interest, that’s number one. Belgium is showing interest by sending their coach to watch him in Spain because he qualifies to play for three countries.

“Zambia, by virtue of his parents, Belgium by birth and England by the period he has lived there. So all of us must show inter-est,” he said.

Belgium coach Mark Wilmots was in Spain three days ago to watch Charly in Betis’ 3-0 win over Espanyol.
Mwale said Zambians should look beyond Charly and also consider his siblings Lamisha and Tika.

  1. Atase! so what? we never watched u and we dont care.atleast we watched kalu in 2005 when he missed a penalty against Angola.as for u charles u dont exist in our memory and we dont know u.we dont miss any part of u bcoz we neva knew u.

to hell therefore with your son and family. what did u achieve with Zambia apart from what we hear from the old school that u were rude and swollen with pride.

is yo son the only valuable talent there is to beg for? for your info we ve RUFF KAIDA to run to if we fall short of stars or celebrities.utubeleshe na bola ya chidunune eyo mwaleteya akale!

That skinny boy of yours is not better than EVANS KANGWA who has ever won afcon before not to mention ba Mupashi.

Ronaldo is good.but portugal cant tick with one member.its therefore better to ve average players playing as a unit than begging for your boy who has so far achieved nothing to document.

Dont think winning man of the match for your boy means winning a ballon-d or.atase!!!

    • Ba Tiago Wanna, please show some respect. The man is patriotic and was just on the wrong end of misinformation. He is willing for his boys to play for the nation. For that, we just need to be grateful. Comments like yours are not inspiring. We ought to bring in positive stuff to encourage the lad to come. I know that we even stand a better chance to qualify for the world cup with this young man. Since his arrival, he has given his team a lift. they are more confident because of him. The other teams are wary of him and are locked up in defense lest the young man hurts them.
Thank you ba Charlie Cool for your input. We appreciate.

  2. I don’t know why people keeps crying about this kid. I was 9 back in 1993 I still remember he’s dad being a bottler, a let down when Zambia needed him the most. Cut off the same cloth no surprise at all. People forget where the from when Europe or other places give them a happy meal. Sellout

  3. Demba ba was red hot for new castle,Drogba red hot for chealse and Gyan red hot fir subderland.but came afcon they were humbled by average TP Mazembe average zambians.its not the skill or fame.but the heart to fly your country’s flag high than any other country.

  4. Demba ba was red hot for new castle,Drogba red hot for chealse and Gyan red hot for sunderland.but came afcon they were humbled by average TP Mazembe average zambians.its not the skill or fame.but the heart to fly your country’s flag high than any other country.

  5. Well for rasonable people the question of charly cools patriotism does not exist. This is Zambians who can easily send a captain like chris katongo up the river when he still has so much to offer. People were always frustrated because charly could not do more in those desperate days post gabon. That is just emotion but not truth, he could have done had his body allowed him but it couldn’t. So of course what has been the story.

Yes charly cool, this day we have good media like zamfoot and that means we should not allow a one sided story as what happened in those days.

  6. Zamfoot my dear st blogger maker, your comments are very speculative. Which Mufulira Wanderers FC team ate is Charly Snr talking about? and then u post the picture between Kalu and Charly?on this great platform u created, from u we expect no speculations but dogma! u have contact for Kalu and Charly, check with both then give us the necessary detail. U must be the reconciliation force and not the one that puts a sander. Shalom

  7. Yes ! Ba Zamfoot this is good news, some of the anti Charlie should be ashamed of themselves by calling him unpatriotic. Lets have sufficient information before we jump on a wagon of misleading others who have less access to information. In short do not take advantage over someone’s ignorance . Chipolopolo iyee….. ni fever nayamba 17 days more to go……..a……….l……… Its Kalengoal,Mbesuma scores!

  8. I am now getting fed up of this family to be honest, one the one hand his wife practically tells all Zambians to go screw themselves on the other ati everytime I come to Ndola-ninshi there is no Ndola kubulaya mwikala? According to your wife ama countries naya fula ayelemifwaya…don’t insult our intelligence here; you claimed your son couldn’t play for Zambia because Zambia didn’t allow for dual citizenship. We left you…Nomba constitution is changed, ati ‘call me first’ lol…if he needs to ever know what the word UNPATRIOTIC means,he is the poster boy!! Anyway, leave Zambia to us,nangu chi sasa, chi sasa chesu mukwai…

  9. It is very difficult for the musonda familly. They have felt bad all this time. You must imagine.

Now they have a big decision to make, to help their son make. They are right, they need confidence and gurantees that i don’t Zambia can give them. Even without out this history a decision is difficult to make after Belgium and England will have contributed so much to their lives.

No Zambia must begrudge the final decision. I don’t think the family Musonda deserve that! Wish the success whatever it is!

  10. If Aubmeyang,Hadji Diuof and Al islam Gaddafi, skillful sons of Presidents who played at that level cud choose Africa who then is this Twak who wants to embarass our sovereignity. let the umgrateful live with their bitterness.chipolopolo has infact been more successful without these ungrateful Twaks in the diapora.

Let lwandamina give us an update on that Norway Goal keeper.not utubantu twa machiki.lyashi mwaishiba kale bane.

  11. Gentlemen Mayuka is on fire in the Egyptian league and you are wasting time crying for this boy who doesn’t want to play for zambia. We should focus on pressurising George to call him from Egypt. Mayuka is better than all the strikers like patson daka who failed at chan. As for charly musonda he can’t play for belgium because eden hazard and de bryne are better than him. He will regret refusing zambia where he would have been a house hold name and lifted trophies and perhaps gone to the world cup even as a captain. Charly musonda will never captain belgium.

  12. Even the heading about Mrs. Musonda was terribly done! Zamfoot u can do rather than sheer speculations. U are a special leader in football matters. Shalom

  13. “Thank God he opened another door for me. Most former Zambian international players are not considered in an case and I am part of that category,”He feels he has reincarnated; charly jr. turning down a callup is not the kids decision but his father’s, it is like he was relishing for this moment for a pay back.

  14. Wellbeck refused to play for Ghana and chose England. Where is he today? Abedi Pele made his sons play for Ghana they are now big stars in europe and nominated for African footballer of the year awards and have tasted the world cup. Charly musonda has failed to see the bigger picture he won’t make it in belgium I promise you.

  15. On Charly Jnr, he is a great boy with a super talent. Wishing althe best whether he plays for Zambia or any other. He can captain any side at the right time. Shalom

  16. Imwe we won afcon without charli jnr,,we got the likes of him kuno bengi instead of wasting energy begging him faz shud be reaching out evn in rural areas for talent tapping.Nabameka ba charles musonda nabana babo kubaleka !!!

    • We do not have a player at that level. the closest I see is Kalaba. Of the local guys, where are they in the national team?
Lets give credit where it is due. We have a master in Kalaba. We have Chisamba Lungu. this boy is another. we can control the midfield with his calm. I pray that he plays for Zambia

  17. Proud zambian will owez be patriotic and wil never keep a grudge for their generations,we are a nation and not one man show,we have great talent in our nation better than what you people are crying for,mr lwandamina did take a gud move on behalf of zambian football and its gud that its turned down by their own..period…

  18. Zamfoot i think for now you may kindly stop updating us on this musonda story its very annoying and wasting our time,we should instead try to discuss issue that are bringing hope to our zambian football, umwana untu ulemona noti uuli mwifumo…

    • The only thing you are missing the chance for chance for zambia use its resources. You are not missing any other hot news. Charly is not asking zambia to beg, understand what is happening people.

  19. Fellow Zambians I understand we need this boy very much, but let’s not rush into talking bad words against Musonda family. All what is needed is proper intervention from the govt&Faz.We need this boy to play for mother Zambia.

  20. @Dares in fact my late President could proudly say” akanani kantu kalipa bwali”.we got the kalabas, kalengos& many more,we make use of them& selection of the team at times very worry some. Patson awe MWe!

  21. I think the best comment would come from a relate to the Musondas ; thus Bilton Musonda – the current GBFC Coach. I’m sure as Brothers they share information alot .

    • Charles musonda my advice is hat forget about the past, forgive whoever wronged you and allow all your three sons to play for mother zambia, that is for the benefit of your son as well as mother zambia and God will bless you, coz the word of God say give and it shall be given to you the same measure. Na ba faz bene you need to change your altitudes surely he has all the rights to complain, look at the way faz is wasting money on the ppo inviting to be part of technical bench as technical advisors, during under 20, U23 and afcon as him charles musonda does not exisit, surely how can you neglet your former fellow footballer as if he is not a zambia, faz you need to apologise for all the wrongs, neglets you have done to him, he is wise to forgive and allow his children to play for mother zambia

  22. Major shade. The truth of the matter is that if Charles wanted to help or contribute to Zambian football he would have done so with or without the blessings of the same people he hints at not being mature. Has he even donated a single football to his childhood club Mufulira Wanderers or has he even given anything back to the local football clubs in Kamuchanga. We need quite playing games and call this for what it is. This guy had zero intentions of allowing his kids to play for Zambia and to say he was not consulted or the player consulted is pure nonsense. Get over your beef with Kalusha and help those who you can help or sit down somewhere and stop causing unnecessary drama. Lets move on to the preps foe the game against Congo, already!

  23. Point taken Ba Charles, now kindly allow junior to finish your unfinished business with the national team so that our flag can fly high again.
Am sure watching Charly will bring back those fond memories of you when the football analysts of the day rated you as the midfielder on the continent. So true that an apple don’t fall far away from the tree.

  24. He is too emotional. Too evy of Great Kalu. The wife s a bad influence on this. That’s your decision, let your child play for belgium or england as your wife had put it. For me I will always remember you as one of Zambia’s great footballers. Just don’t try accuse Kalu for what you could have been. I will be watching France Euro 2016. Good luck Charles Musonda Jr

  25. Can Charles Musonda answer these few questions i have then i will take him serious.
    1. Did Kalusha had anything to do with his injury?
    2. Did Kalusha choose to be crowned 1988 African footballer of the year or was he supposed to share his accolade with the one who provided the assists?
    3. Did Kalusha stop Charles from attending the funeral of his late colleagues in the Gabon crush?
    4. Did Kalusha stop Charles from getting involved in the reconstruction of the national team post Gabon disaster?
    5. Did Kalusha stop Charles from getting involved in the local games in terms of management, sponsorship, coaching or anything of the sort?
    6. How many times was Charles called to the national team and said he was injured and yet continued to play for Anderlect team?
    7. Is Kalusha supposed to buy a house, car, pay school fees or whatever it is to all former national team players?

This Kalusha must have a larger than life influence on peoples lives.
My point really is over the years, Charles patriotism has been questioned and he can not show anything for his claims.

No sane person will question Kalusha’s patriotism….he has shown it several times under very trying times. Let those who are fighting him accuse him of something else and not patriotism.

  26. Should we beg for the lad because the father was cut-deep? After all if he came he would just disturb the flow of our soccer. Let him and his father decide who to please. Begging him will make us to bow down and lick the father’s boots. Is he the only one who has been neglected? Neglect aside…. this is Zambia not Europe where maybe parked players are on payroll. What has Charly tempered done to us since he left for Europe? Its him who does not appreciate what ZCCM did to him. Keep your boys, we have plenty of untapped youngsters here.

  27. Chalie have always loved u since my childhood,u re the greatest prayer have ever seen in zambia but put the past behind let the boy play for zambia and finish your mission its time the rejected corner become the center

  28. I hope the kids do well as they have a bright future ahead. But some things have to be said : if Charlie had been there after 1993, like Kalushya and others , when his experience half-fit, or not, was sorely needed, who knows where we could have ended in the 1994 qualifiers???? Always feel an anger.

  29. I see that most of you dont understand the frustration that Charles Musonda went through, remember the game where, he was called and was given the option of playing after starting with Kalu’s young brother. Remember when he brought his boys here for under 20 trials, we refused to even look at them.

What is frustration if not this?

  30. Players make more money from club football, and not national team. National team appearances are much for pride. Your national team appearance just raises ur country’s flag at most. But consistent National team appearance in 1st eleven also raises players’ transfer fees. This Musonda Jnr may even gain more playing for Zambia than Belgium. Examples are there for evryone to see. Musonda Snr knws Zambia is the way to go, that’s why he needs assurance from Kalu. Kalu should come and clear things that the boy can play for Zambia. Not doing so, will expose Kalu’s pride and arrogance.

  31. Charlie Jr, just like the father has Zambian blood flowing through his veins. I have seen President Lungu send KK to China and Angola as special envoy to get things done. As Head of State, he can use his discretion to send his Excellence the Former President to help bring home the much fancied and talented son of the soil. It has been done before, I know KK brought results, so it can be done even now. This is a national call to duty for Zambia. We are sorry for the past differences that we may have little information over, and we are bound to speculate and make wrong judgments. But its also possible to bury the past and build a stronger and united Zambia going forward. We can not live in hate forever, its not healthy for any stakeholder. I therefore call upon the Hon. Minister of Sport to make the necessary appeal to HE for a special emissary to the Musondas to make the right choice. It can only be Zambia. One Zambia, One Nation. Go Chipolopolo Go.
