Zambia U17 opened their FIFA U17 World Cup campaign in Qatar with a 3-1 comeback victory over hosts Indonesia in Group H.
Dennis Makinka’s young side thought they had taken the lead within the opening minute, but Mapalo Simute’s strike was ruled out for offside. Moments later, Indonesia drew first blood as Zahaby Gholy found the net in the 12th minute.
The Junior Chipolopolo gradually took control of the game, forcing Indonesia into a mid-block, and their persistence paid off. Forest Rangers winger Kelvin Chipelu delivered a low cross that was neatly finished by Atlético Lusaka forward Abel Salim Nyirongo to level matters.

Barely two minutes later, Nyirongo struck again with a stunning 25-yard curler to give Zambia a 2-1 advantage. Despite Indonesia’s attempts to respond, the Zambian backline—led by Sporting Lusaka defender James Sibeeene—remained solid.

Spain-based midfielder Lukonde Mwale extended the lead to 3-1 before halftime, converting another fine assist from Chipelu.
Zambia looked less fluid after the break, with Makinka’s substitutions struggling to maintain the first-half rhythm, but the damage had already been done.

With Brazil thrashing Honduras 7-0 in the other Group H encounter, Zambia can secure a place in the knockout stage with a win over Honduras in their next match.
