Kaunda’s U17 to miss key players in Nigeria game

The Zambia U17 national team will go into the final game of the CAF U17 Championship against Nigeria handicapped after two key players accumulated 2 yellow cards each to be ruled out of the must win encounter.

Defenders Edward Chimfwembe and Prosper Chiluya who have been solid performers Chris Kaunda’s team were both booked in the first half in the 2 – 1 win over Niger.

The two also received bookings in the first game against Guinea which Zambia lost 1 – 0.

There are also injury concerns for another defender Wayne Museba who was substituted in the game against the rough Nigeriens in the 64th minute.

If Museba who scored the second goal for Zambia against Niger does not recover in time, Kaunda will go in the match against a highly patched-up defence which has not been significantly tested.

  1. It just takes 1 game sometimes to become a star. If zambia beats Nigeria I assure you the whole team will be in europe next year. Scouts will devour this team. You will hear rumours of parents to these kids being offered money and houses so that their sons can sign for certain clubs. I say the boys must die a little and beat Nigeria. The ticket to stardom is now within reach. Mind you afcon 2017 u-20 will be in zambia these same boys will represent us. We will have a strong team if all goes well. They must get to Chile whatever the price!

    • Till then as we’ve heard that story of our players going to Europe enmasse-i’d be happy if it happened and just hoping that ghost that always impedes us gets exorcised!

  2. I say it doesn’t matter that Nigeria are world champions. Remember the boys who won the world cup are now u-20’s. This is a new Nigerian team. Our boys must just die on the pitch and go to Chile. This is a chance for some of them to escape poverty. To move from rags to riches. To move from nchanga rangers to Monaco or barcelona.

  3. It may just be an opportunity for other players to show what they can offer. Lets take out opportunities from challenges. Anything is possible and Nigeria is NOT indispensable. They may have players who have won 17 WC but Zambia can hammer them. It is well with Zambia.

  4. Ati the whole team will be in europe if they beat Nigeria, ba john bena bwafya.
@ John, if we beat Nigeria and perform well in Chile, majority of our players will go to South Africa. Thats the truth.

  5. Mumbi this is the world cup we are a talking about. The u-17 and u-20 world cup are the biggest shop windows for scouts. These two tournaments are bigger than the senior world cup in terms of scout presence. The Europeans want boys 15-19 I assure you there is no going to PSL once you play at these world cups.

  6. Wish the boys all the best. But a complete team always has cover for such eventualities and it (fate) also gives chance to other boys to show case their skills.
No fear for Nigeria but only respect. They have the pedigree but the players have changed and at that age, they are all aspiring so its who has the most hunger that is going to get it.

  7. paradox..recent research reveals that majorty of african youth who play for junior teams in italy are ghanaians,so you need this tournament badly, not us..

  8. An african player less than 18 cannot sign a proffessional contract in europe. They can only sign semi professional contract….Don’t put pressure on them…If they are good, they will make it to the top

    • If we draw with Nigeria and Niger beats Guinea, we are out, on head to head rule. Any other result than a win will spell doom for Zambia.

  9. The game against Nigeria will be very difficult. Don’t expect too much from the boys. I think they have already given a good account of themselves by beating the hosts Niger.

  10. Mumbi if you doubt what I’m saying look at the class of 07. Fwayo is in Romania, Mayuka in England, njobvu is in Israel, Sunzu is in China but has already tasted europe. How many boys from that team went to the psl. The answer is none if you are good at the youth world cup you are off to Europe.

  11. john, if they perform well yes some players will make it to europe. Mayuka did not go straight to europe after that u-20 wc, he went back to Kabwe Worriers thanx he was already spoted. Even the likes of Njobvu and Sunzu went back to Green Baffarows and Konkola Blades respectively.
What u should know by now is that, our players lacks agents and ends up in the PSL no matter how talented they are.

  12. Lets hope our boys beats Nigeria which I strongly feel they will. Nigeria is not that threatening looking at their 2 games. They beat Niger 2 nil but we could have done morethan that if it where not for our mentality of relaxing when you are leading.
Zambia was better than Guinea despite a loss but Nigeria badly struggled to salvage an equalising goal. We can beat them if we dont relax from the first whistle to the last. Our boys needs more encouragement to realise their dream of Chile u-17 wc.

    • Seeing some sense in you too now. Hopefully it continues. I am glad you have taken my advice to solicit wisdom from ROK & Positive Thinking

    • This is the beauty of the game. Never be 100% certain u will win a game for u to bet going naked for even a day. Remember Leicester City in EPL beat Man United in their first meeting this season. No doubt Nigeria is good, but the junior Chipos are showing signs of resilience unlike the senior team
