How Kamanga managed to sack Wada

FAZ President Andrew Kamanga has been trying to sack outgoing Chipolopolo Boys coach Wedson Nyirenda in the last 12 months or so but to no unveil.

The stumbling block has always been Nyirenda’s $10, 000 monthly salary.

While Kamanga had lost faith in Nyirenda due to inconsistent results, the gaffer still had over 15 months left on his three year contract which is bankrolled by government.

Had FAZ terminated Wada’s contract, the former Power Dynamos and Nchanga Rangers striker would have been entitled to over $150, 000 as compensation.

Nyirenda knew that neither government nor FAZ had that kind of money to buy off his contract.

And when FAZ Technical Committee summoned him to appear and explain the Chipolopolo’s poor form, Wada responded via an email and refused to go to Football House for the scheduled meeting.

Behind the scenes, Kamanga clinched a coaching partnership programme in Spain where about five Zambian coaches will be attached at different times.

With Wada not ready to meet Kamanga, the FAZ chief brokered a meeting between Sports Minister Moses Mawere and Nyirenda.

In that meeting which was also attended by the Ministry of Sports Permanent Secretary the idea of spending time in Spain learning  Barcelona’s Tika Taka was floated  to Wada.

“All the expenses and allowances will be paid by FAZ and its partners. And Nyirenda will upgrade his papers,” a ZamFoot Crew insider revealed

“It’s a win win situation for both parties with the deal.”

While all this has been going on,  Nyirenda has been linked with the Cameroon job after being named in the Indomitable Lions list of trainers interested in the job.

Media reports have linked Wada with South Africa club Baroka FC top job.

With news filtering that Wada’s tenure has reached the end of the road, a host of coaches are sending their CVs.

So far, former Chipolopolo Boys coach Dario Bonetti, Frenchman Didier Six, former Zesco United coach Zlat Krymptoc and two from Germans have declared interest.

News coming out of Football House indicate that a new coach will be paid around $10, 000

  1. Kirymplene alionaula ZESCO, don’t bring him anywhere near the Chipolopolo.

Mario Bonneti also sued or took FAZ to FIFA, would there be a good working relationship?
Anyway ingisheni onse fye uo mule fwaya what we want are good football results.

  2. Whoever comes in must be given some clear objectives. We have too many good players to aim low this time around.

    1. Qualify to Afcon 2019 and reach at least the semi finals of the same tournament
    2. Win Afcon 2021
    3. Qualify for world cup 2022

Reaching the olympics and winning all these cups like cosafa is strictly part of the agenda.

You look at players like shonga, Augustine mulenga, daka, mwepu, E. banda, Lubambo, E. Kangwa…etc and you cant help but wonder why we shouldn’t be blowing teams away. From tp mazembe, i feel we need sinkala and kabaso chongo. A few more call ups and the team is a formidable one. We have everything we need but we cant seem to manage it well…..as usual.

An example of a well balanced team would be:

    silwimba – Sunzu – Chongo – Mbola

    Mulenga – Sinkala – Mwepu – Fashion

    Shonga- Daka

Its time to be aggressive, Proactive and bold.

    • of course mweeene or nsabata in goal. Mweene like nsabata used to make blunders at time but he eventually came out good. So no need to criticize nsabata like it is the end of the world.

    • I think you are on point with the comments and selection. The only change i would make is replacing Fashion Sakala for Evans Kangwa for Fashion Sakala.

  3. Irfan Kawri believes he can end Zambia’s World Cup wait

Former Zambia assistant coach Irfan Kawri believes he could be the man to end the Chipolopolo’s wait to reach a maiden World Cup.

The 2012 African champions have taken part in 13 qualifying campaigns for international football’s showpiece, and are one of the most high-profile African nations never to have reached the grandest stage of all.

Indeed, the only other African Cup of Nations winners not to have reached the Mundial are Sudan, Ethiopia and Congo-Brazzaville – all of whom won the continental championship before 1973.

Ex-Clitheroe assistant coach and current Queens Park Rangers scout Kawri, who was part of Zambia’s coaching staff between December 2015 to May 2016, believes he could be the man to end the wait.

“It would be a dream come true for me to manage Zambia and one day help take them to a World Cup,” Kawri told KweseESPN. “I’m confident with the right people around me, and the right preparations and conditions, we could do it.

“I respect whoever the head coach is as I support the team and want the best for them at all times,” he continued. “However, having been an assistant myself I know as a nation we can do things better.

“We need a clear vision, structure, philosophy and ethos coming that everyone buys into, not just coaches and players of the senior team, but all the youth teams, and administration and executive committee staff as well.

    “We need synergy throughout.”

Wedson Nyirenda’s Zambia acquitted themselves well during the qualification campaign for the 2018 event in Russia, but fell short after being pitted into the ‘Group of Death’.

The Copper Bullets were always up against it after being drawn along with Nigeria, Algeria and Cameroon, although they nonetheless took eight points and secured back-to-back wins over Les Fennecs.

Kawri believes that he has the required qualities to help Zambia end their World Cup woe and to finally qualify for the big one, but believes that improved organisation during training could be the simple difference-maker for the COSAFA heavyweights.

Notably, he believes that it wouldn’t take too much to improve Zambia’s defence, which conceded seven in six qualifying matches, more than any of the teams who did reach Russia.

“When I was assistant I did most of the training leading into the African Nations Championship to help prepare the team,” he added. “I did a lot of phases of play, working on team shape and organisation in possession and out of possession and getting players to make the right decisions in transition.

“Senior players, including ex-AFCON 2012 winners, told me this is the training we needed and felt they were more organised,” he concluded. “We ended up with the best defensive record in the CHAN, and only lost on penalties in the quarter final.”

Zambia have been drawn alongside Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau and Namibia in their AFCON 2019 qualifying group.

    • I agree with you too.
Irfan has advantage over other candidates. He knows the players,he has been with them and he has been following Zambian Soccer. Not to forget that he is young and ambitious!!

    • I think Wada would have done well if he had room to forgive players he regarded as indiscipline. With his unforgiving spirit he was actually shooting himself in the foot!!!He deliberately left out players who were fit to play and included the ones who had injuries. He did not even both to cast his net wider so as to consider other players who were then playing week in week out. Games we should have won with easy, we threw away. Let the guy go and ask God to grant him contrite spirit.

  5. Bitterness brings about reasoning freeze. All wanted was I must punish Kaliba e.t.c forgetting to replace him with right player’s like Lubambo. Wada can’t go far, he carries a spirit of unforgiving.

    • Even Nathan Sinkala whom I think could have made a big difference. Was he not good enough as well? or did he misbehave badly before Wada’s eyes?

  6. This is some of the best NEWS to come out of the Soccer scene in Zambia. I hope this is true. We were further going down as a team with W.Nyirenda as a the Coach.

@Prolific Winger. I feel all the TP Mazembe players need to be called. Kabaso, Nathan Sinkala and Rainford Kalaba. Rainford needs to come in and help they younger players upfront. He is the only guy upfront with vast Continental and AFCON experience. He has been to about 4 or 5 AFCON Tournaments + a Gold Meaal. A.Mulenga. Shonga,P.Daka & F.Sakala can learn from him. Players like F.Sakala does not know when to pass or shoot the ball. Even when others players are open he keeps shooting an angle or from afar. He can learn from the “Master” Kalaba who is one player who has tried to play at the same level as the Late Alex “Computer” Chola who died in the Gabon plane crash as an Assitant Coach. Kalaba does not need to play 90 minutes. Just an hour and you take him out because his engine can’t run longer but he still has the ability to create damage. It pained me to see them (TP Players) not included in the team that played the last W.C Qualifiers for Russia 2018.

    • Indeed,it will be so awesome to have a coach who will not cling to conflicts with his own players. We need someone who will talk and resolve differences with people he works with.We are all just human being who are prone to making mistakes. We want to see players working hard to earn a call to play for the national team. We have enough great players to play any team in Africa. We just need a good tactician.
