Kalaba sees red after scoring, Sinkala misses from spot

Chipolopolo Boys captain Rainford Kalaba was sent off in the first half of the first leg of the CAF Champions League between TP Mazembe and USM Algier of Algeria.

From hero to villain

The Mufulira born had just put the Lubumbashi ahead with a vital away goal and soon after he was sent off for violent conduct in an off the ball incidence.

Nathan Sinkala started in midfield while Given Singulama and Kabaso Chongo did not even make the bench.

Kalaba scored a unleashed a thunderbolt outside the penalty box which beat the North African goalkeeper in the 27th minute.

Sinkala, who got a rare start then missed from close range.

As expected against the North Africans drama started as Kalaba was sent off shoving a player in the face.

An USM player handled in the box in the second half and Sinkala picked himself only to miss from the spot.

The player who handled in the box was also sent home and both sides finished the game with a man down.

Tanzanian striker Mbwana Samatta was clattered in the box and the referee did not hesitate to give Mazembe their second penalty which Samatta scored to make it 2-0.

  3. Kalaba of all people should know that violent tempers will lead to punishment. Those Arabs are bad when it comes to annoying opponents, from feigning injury to provocation just to make you get sent off by the referee.
Having said that, the goal Kalaba scored was brilliant. Its a pity that he will now miss the return leg in Lubumbashi in a week’s time. Sinkala also, inasmuch as he is rediscovering his form as a holding midfielder, should improve on his ball kicking skills.
Having said this, its a vital away 1-2 goal score to Mazembe who will only need just a draw to lift the CAF Club Champions Cup. Big up to TPM.

    • Sinkala missed what could have been a second goal in the first half with only the goalkeeper to beat. In the second half he also missed a penalty. Otherwise, glad to see that his form has improved greatly. As for Kalaba he is ever magnificent but dissensions.

  4. TP mazembe ,we are pround of you, congratulation.on the issue of kalaba being sent off,he has himself to develop self discipline and change for the better, all in all ,he is a good player. ,acttually very.

  5. Great goal indeed ba mupa . As captain of zambia maintain discipline. This is the first time you have been sent out for temper and thats where you foes have noted your weakness otherwise you are a master.

  6. Prior to this goal kalaba had already scored 4 goals in the champions league
Why is caf treating south Africans so badly it’s not fair. Kalaba is supposed to be nominated for the African footballer of the year award for the player based in africa. It’s very unfair heart bleeds at how we are mistreated. This is day light robbery kalaba along with samatta are the best players playing in africa right now it’s clear.

  7. Zamfoot I’m sure you can do better reporting than this. You could atleast elaborate on Kalaba’s off the ball incident for the benefit of some of us that didn’t watch the match. And you make no mention of Sinkala’s penalty miss which you headline. Basic stuff

  8. As usual those Arabs supporters showed how primitive they are….by the end of the game there were enough bottles on the pitch to start a profitable recycling business. Kalaba’s goal was such a beaut…Sinkala tirelessly tackled and harassed those USMA guys venturing into his zone in front of defenders…..he was always behind strikers when TP was attacking…..missed that one on one with the goalie and later the penalty…tried to slot it in on the right and keeper went the right way. My guess is that he could still be just a bit rusty in terms of game time at that level. Back to Kalaba, who gave his best as TP’s play-maker….intelligently combining long and short passes to his mates.. Kabaso would have to work very hard to earn his coach’s nod ahead of Frimpong at right back…..Singuluma’s versatility still makes an interesting option in the TP set up…but realistically speaking his time is almost up…. TP supporters still love him and never forget what he has done since 2009…

  9. Kalaba nd bwana samata if one amoung these two players were chosen i would say caf is far bez these re the best players in the african league, to make maters worse none of olando pilates players re there dispite hamering all arabs
