Kaizer Chiefs interested in Mutoshi

South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Kaizer Chiefs are interested in Luka Mutoshi, the ZamFoot Crew has learned.

The lanky midfielder joined ZESCO United in January from ZPL Men’s National League side Kafue Celtic alongside former Zambia U17 national team forward Emmanuel Mwanza. The ZamFoot Crew understands that the Glamour Boys monitored Mutoshi during the CAF Confederation Cup.

Mutoshi put in good shifts in the three matches he played: the 1–0 loss to Chiefs away in South Africa, the 1–0 win over Zamalek SC at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, and the 2–0 loss to Al Masry away in Egypt.

Prior to joining ZESCO United, Mutoshi spent the 2024/2025 MTN Super League season at Edwin Imboela on the books of high-flying Nkwazi FC.

Should the deal materialize, Mutoshi will look to follow in the footsteps of fellow Zambian internationals who have left a lasting footprint at Chiefs, with several Chipolopolo stars donning the famous gold and black over the years. The most iconic of them all remains Collins Mbesuma, whose explosive spell between 2003 and 2005 delivered back-to-back league titles and a staggering 35-goal season — a record that still stands in the PSL era. His dominance earned him the Golden Boot and legendary status at Naturena, cementing his place as arguably the greatest Zambian to ever play for Amakhosi. Earlier, Wedson Nyirenda also made history in the 1990s, famously scoring in the 1994 BP Top 8 final triumph, while powerful striker Rotson Kilambe featured during the early 2000s as part of a wave of Zambian talent in the PSL.

In more recent years, the club turned again to Zambia for firepower, bringing in forwards Lewis Macha and Lazarous Kambole, both of whom arrived with high expectations after prolific spells back home. However, the duo struggled to replicate their scoring exploits at Chiefs, managing only limited goals and appearances before moving on.

Other Zambians such as Songwe Chalwe, Aaron Lubunda, Philemon Mulala, and Albert Bwalya also passed through the club, contributing to a rich cross-border football relationship between Zambia and South Africa

  1. Why has SA neglected our players? They should have been picking our boys from the junior teams. That league shouls always have at least 11 Zambian players.
