Zesco United striker Jesse Jackson Were says the defending Champions are working really had to retain the title.
The MTN/FAZ Super League resumed on 18th July after a four months break. The Kenyan talisman says it was not easy to stay that long without football and get back to instant fitness once the league was resumed.
“I think what is crucial is retaining game fitness. It is not easy staying without playing football for over four months and getting instant match fitness. The boys are working hard because they know that there are only a few games to go before the close of the season, ” Were told the club’s official website.
“Today(Sunday) the technical bench has organized a strong friendly game against Power Dynamos. This is very good for me and the lads to get in shape. This game has helped us understand where we are lacking as a team and the things we need to do correctly.”
“We are hoping that the coach could find another good friendly game in midweek which will be crucial as we prepare for our next game against Lusaka Dynamos,” he added.
The former Tusker captain expects a tough game against Lusaka Dynamos over the weekend but believes what’s important for Zega Mambo is to begin to collect maximum points.
“It will be a tough game but I think for us it is crucial that we start collecting maximum points. We are currently fighting to get back to the top of the league table, which won’t be easy. But we know that the gap is not too big for us to catch-up,” he said.
The eight-time Super League Champions are currently 5th on the log table with 43 points from 25 games, 3 points shy of log leaders Nkana.
