Janza: The most important thing is we did not lose the game

Chipolopolo coach Honour Janza says he is content with the result scored by his team against Congo DR in a match played on Sunday evening.

Speaking during a media briefing after the game, Janza said the most important thing was not to lose the first game especially that there are a lot of nerves in the first game.

“The most important thing is we did not lose the game. The first game is usually full of nerves, and we have learnt one or two things. It was a physical and tough game. We will use it as a stepping stone for the other matches,” Janza said.

“The early goal was good for us because we knew that when DR Congo scored it was going to be difficult for us to come back. We planned to put them under pressure,” he added.

He acknowledged that his team made it easy for Congo DR to play with the many break downs in seen in the build ups.

“We were a bit careless with our passes and it gave them an easy game. If we can work on that, it would be good for our next game.”

And the coach for the Leopards Florent Ibenge said his team was up against a string and mature team.

“Zambia is a strong team, played well and utilized the counter attack. They are a matured team and know how to manage the game since some of them have won the Africa Cup of Nation before. During the match, they made us not sleep but we believe we can do better,” Ibenge said.

  1. Almost there , please next game start Lubambo MUSONDA, we lacked creative player. Hard luck Chipolopolo otherwise it was s day for ba Kasayi !!!!!

    • Be realistic. It was not a good start. Why do we enjoy mediocrity in Zambia. There was nothing special about that display. It was way out of our ball game as Zambia. The mid field was none existent. The so called hero worshiped Kapamba was not seen. Too small, slow and could not match the pace of the game. Mayuka was literally alone upfront. Kalaba was completely zero rated.

  2. We are going nowhere with Janza steering our ship. He doesn’t know how to read the compass and the Zambian ship is just drifting at sea. The next thing it will hit an iceberg and finally sink like the titanic.

  3. “The most important thing is we did not lose”. Sorry folks but therein lies our problem. I don’t care whether its the team’s first or second match at the tournament – you do not go into a match with the a mindset of “not wanting to lose”. Our approach should’ve been “play to win”.
Where was the hunger? Where was the determination? Where was the uuuumf!

  4. It was clear there was only one team wanting to win the match and sadly, that team wasn’t my beloved Zambia. Just like hips, statistics too don’t lie.

  5. Janza you should omprove on reading the game, kalaba was off the game, we were no game in the midfield….given is a number 10 and number 8, we lacked creaticity in midfield, I don’t understand your technical bench….we defended from the first whistle…..work on the midfield and improve on reading the game.

  6. truth being told, Janza cant read the gams. government has done well not to give him a contract. was that the zambia i know with a passing game? shame on kalu for letting Patrice go

  7. Janza a school boy coach..trying to gain experience with the national team why not first coach why not first coach a club the the national team…team kalu this what he is known for best.

  8. I can hammer out allot criticism right this minute. but i will spare the team a heap of criticism which is not going to be useful to their ears at this juncture.

I’m simply going urge the team to focus!

There are allot of problems, and focus will help straighten the majority…

  9. We need creativity. We need to do basic stuff like pass the ball and keep it. Stop these silly free-kick we give away like 10 per game

  10. Go Zambia GO …. you can do it … and all the way winning next five games and we are champs again … viva Chipolopolo … Shalom and GOD bless the Republic …

  11. I have read alot of rubbish from these so-called ‘fans’ of Chipolopolo; you are all talking like we LOST the game?! Get a grip! We did not perform like the Zambia we know-yes, but to come out here and insult the coach and the players shows a real lack of class on our part-shame on you!! Who among us after their child fails an exam scolds him and insults him? It’s not right, who here can honestly say they expected Zambia to beat DRC by 5 goals to nil?? Truth is we all knew DRC was the toughest opponent in this group and they proved it. The group is wide open,a draw and a win from our two games sees us through, manje Zambians-good at talking without offering any concrete solutions; we drew,so did DRC by the way,so did Tunisia,so did Cape Verde-I guess now all 4 teams should fire their ‘useless’ coaches right?? Renard told you one very important thing,’Zambians think they have the BEST PLAYERS ON THE PLANET when infact they don’t!!’-ehmashiwi Renard asosele!! Until we get players playing in the top leagues in Europe and competing at the highest level week in,week out, don’t expect to reap where you have not sworn!! This is the best that Zambia can offer in terms of players and anyone who argues otherwise is delusional!! Let the guys play the last two games,if they fail, you have the right to call them names and remind us of how you knew that we where doomed from the very beginning,if you can’t offer any encouragement to a VERY YOUNG and inexperienced squad,go call bena Chris and Jacob and whoever you want to include in YOUR team and go play chimpombwa-leave Zambia to us who truly support the team REGARDLESS of result and form!!! Sha!!!

    • @Gesh, you have totally missed the point and it’s clear you”re not a soccer analyst, but a mere fan. Zambia’s problem is not one of players. Zambia’s problem is a structural one. It is the way the team was structured that proved our downfall. When a team has structural problems, then the root cause is the coach. janza despite all his qualifications is out of his depth.

    • Mr Gesh u ar indeed a true Zambian citizen & a true chipolopolo fan!! of all the comments I hav gone through so far, yours is the best.. In lyf we shuld expect both ( failure and success )..

Lets provide solutions to problems and not problems to problems..coz when u insult, u potray yo character; for out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth articulates. BE MATURE GUYZ!!!!

  12. You guys talk too much. Janza is doing well. Drawing with Congo Dr is a good result. Congo Dr is the best team in the group. Congo Dr has the best clubs in africa and the best talent in europe. Some of you are even praising pathetic Renard. Go and ask Renard what Congo did to him in Abijan. Congo Dr is better than Tunisia and cape Verde they have much better quality. Ghana failed to beat Congo Dr in 2013 at the afcon who told you zambia was going to have it easy . Zambia stands a good chance now of progressing because they drew with the strongest team in the group.

    • john, I like your comments. I agree with you. People are just talking and attacking the coach aimlessly. DR Congo is no walkover. In fact DR Congo will top this group.

  13. PATHETIC coach. One of the worst coaches we have ever had in 50 years! From the time this character took over as coach, the team no longer players as a unit. They are normally slow, sluggish, lethargic with no system at all. We are DOOMED with this chap as coach!

  14. Naked goal the answer there is dario bonetti. Some of you guys are talking too much. Dr Congo is the first African nation to win chan in 2009. Drc has the best clubs in africa. Bolasie, mulumbu, mbokani, etc all are top players in europe. Zambia has just drawn with the best team. Ghana failed to beat drc at afcon 2013 who told you winning let alone a draw would be easy. Let us just SHUT UP and allow Janza to do his job. This DRC team on paper has one of the best squads at afcon even better than the likes of Ghana and Cameroon. Drc is far much better than Tunisia

  15. @john, Agree with you but on Congo having the best league on the Continent but disagree with you claiming they have the best squad at this year’s afcon.

  16. @John you are a very silly character. Yesterday you claimed Drc team does look that tough but today you claim they have the best squad??

  17. CHisamba Lungu and Mbola are useless. Chisamba Lungu likes to dribble carelessly and then when he loses the ball he does not harass the player with ball. On many occasion he almost cost us a game, just like he did against Nigeria in 2013. Coach is also useless, one would see from the way this team is playing that it is being coached by a Zambian. Useless. We looked like Somali, coordination or any style of play.

  18. Always learning one or two things but failing all his exams. The most clueless Coach to have ever Coached Zambia. Can’t read d game. Surely, how does one give such a brand to a clueless Coach?

  19. U guys r harshy n non objective,u telling that Janza is clueless then we do what?@ john u r ryt let th coach do is job he made a mistake or two on sate sate n Given, wat we need are suggestions here not competition of insults…..my suggestions wl 1..employ two defensive midfielders nathan and mtonga(not malama n nathan coz malama failed to cordinate wt nathan in cape verde, maybe mtonga n malama if nathan does nt recover)
2…Then drop th idea of wingers we play 4 2 3 1 in front of th two CDM we play kalaba, given, lubambo then in front mayuka coz he kips defenders busy…at th back sunzu n chris munthali nkausu,mbola….. We shud shud b able to win,if we score early like we did n th tym reaches hour mark we change to 4 5 1 formation,we can’t play kalaba our playmaker in a restricted position like wing but a free role

  20. We need to encourage th guys to hv th hunger, look n beg for th ball, start defendin as far as our strikers n strikers to hv shots at goal outside 18yard..we r not bad as some bloggers wants us to be..truth b told I feared DRC to other countries,wl qualify that am sure,wl not lose a game at group level, then our Confidence wl grow then who knows

  21. From what I saw in Chris on supersport, he can be a better than Janza, he failed to express himself well in the queens language but he was on point on most of the things he said . I think the reason why Janza dropped him is because he’s got far much better understanding of the game than the coach, so the coach didn’t want to consider his input .

    • I can agree with you strongly. You have a strong point man. Chris has a better insight of the game and any coach who has never played or coached at high level will feel uncomfortable. Though i have to be honesty i still don’t need him in the team, but his input technically would be welcome.

  22. Janza can not read the game that is for sure, firstly Given is a central striker and not an attacking midfielder that is why there was always a gap in front of Nathan and this clown of a coach could not see that.Secouldly,we were in slow motion and our passing was pathetic ,ka chisamba should have a limit with his dribbles and try to fight back for the ball if he losses it.Lastly,we are not a bad side and we made Drc look very good because we were defending so deep hence they were all over us,they say the best defence is to attack that is what we should have done period.

  23. Zambia may qualify and what are some of you guys going to say? You will really be ashamed of yourself. @ Alex zz those bunch of kids you have carried to afcon can’t beat DRC. You Ghanaians failed to beat drc with a much stronger team in 2013 who told you that you can beat this DRC team in 2015 with Bolasie. I said it when the squads were announced 2 weeks ago that on paper DRC is better than most team at afcon. That Ghana team without kwado asamoah would probably lose to drc. You can’t even beat Uganda home and away you want to start talking about zambia’s showing against drc. Drc is even better than Senegal. Senegal is just a team of names and they lack pace. Drc is more of a team than Senegal. Zambia has drawn with the best team in the group and as far as I’m concerned it’s advantage zambia. When was the last time ivory Coast was beaten at home? Drc did that last year so SHUT up and leave Janza to work

    • @john hear hear its good to hear that coming from you. We come with a draw and pipo complain and call the coach all sorts of names, why? Ati Janza is clueless, you same pipo were calling Janza names the last he left Chisamba on the bench, today you are the same pipo calling Chisamba an idiot becoz it was not his day. What do you want the coach to do mwebantu, he gives you the players you cry for you insult him, he leaves them out you still insult him. He gives different formation of the team to suit the team he is playing against you call him clueless. He substitute Mayuka you say he should have left him play 90 minutes, he does not substitute him you insult him.He comes out with a draw with a deadly team full of very good strikers, you insult him. I dont know what would have happened if we lost? Some pipo would still shout at Janza if we held on to that goal. Pathetic pipo why cant you be positive for once and give support to the lads!!!!

      • The mediocrity on the part of the coach’s tactical approach has been too consistent to ignore ,Ba Nchanga Ranchers !Even if we go to the quarter finals, its clear that we need a more compentent coach going forward! We all want him to suceed but its clear that the stage is too much for him and that cannot be ignored or brushed aside!

  24. @john bro I love yo approach, wat pipo don’t understand is that th DRC game is done n getting a point wen u dnt play well is not bad, let’s suggest not tok abt th past n overly critizing th coach for nothing

  25. I woke up at 24hrs last night to watch this game live (because of Australia time difference) And I must say I was disappointed and perplexed by the way the boys played. I know they can do much better and hope they will do much better. I still think they can progress to the knockout stage of they bring their ‘A game’. And even if they don’t make the next stage they should still play their best so at least we will know that they lost because other teams were better but not because they didn’t play their best. Good Luck and work hard Copper Bullets with you all the way!

  26. Let’s not look at DRC has donner of points here, I think we all watched the game, DRC was too strong to contain. however, we lost it all because Janza did not do his home work, watch their games and analyze which game plan to use. Those long balls exposed us, we could not keep possession, loss balls in dangerous areas let’s work on that one

  27. Hey! Let us give Janza a chance…this was only the first match and we did not lose…if the team wins the rest of the matches, Janza will become the BEST coach….pliz hold your fire and propose what you want to see in the next game not pouring scorn on the coach…the team is not bad at all; what they need is just to control the proceedings, maintaining possession and making accurate passes to the frontline…pumping more balls in the D-zone. He needs to ensure we have Lubambo (for pace and crosses) instead of Chisamba (gives away balls easily), get Mtonga in the midfield to support Nathan and play Kangwa upfront (as a Starter instead of Mayuka) and let Singuluma provide support upfront not in the middle of the pack…Mbola leaves his position porous forcing Kalaba to support him…We need Kalaba in a free role, he needs to be roving, that’s where he is most dangerous…he is our Messi.

  28. Grinding results even when you aren’t playing well is good. Janza doesn’t inspire me so much, but i hope for once he can learn. In SA during friendly we score & then went to defend- result was SA equalised. yesterday same pattern. In cape verde, same thing> Who is responsible for telling our players that you never defend a goal!! Who should tell the players, that when you are leading, you have better chances of venturing out still with room to make errors, cause your opponents what to score

  29. Some bloggers here are missing the point. Our disappointment from the match is not that we drew against DRC. We are not underestimating DRC or any of our opponents for that matter. The issue here is that Zambia were outplayed purely by our on fault. It is not in my harbit to pinpoint individual bloggers but on this occasion I have to say @john you are showing us all that you can’t be relied upon when it comes to taking a stance on a particular issue. You have been one of the biggest proponent of not entertaining mediocrity but here you are my bro giving a thumbs up to the very thing you preach against. We all want the best for Zambia that’s why some of us speak out! For all i care, Zambia may even qualify from this group but truth remains we are regressing while our opponents are progressing. We need a change in FAZ administrators as well as the technical panel. Zambia has been reduced to a trial ground for coaches and players. Before the tournament even kicked off I stated that if our striking force will be led by Mayuka and Sate Sate then we are in trouble. We have so many problems in the team and bootlickers are the least we need in trying to put Zambia where it belongs.

  30. @paddy excellent point. Its not abt da draw but da way we played. We played Poorly as if its not Zed. And it was all the Coaches errors. E.g how dyu play Given in mid? We hav a good team of creative talented players. We need to b able to play better than wat we hav seen. I can’t believe anyone that watches our Team (john) can say that “Janza is doin well” we did not play well n we hav not been playing well for many matches now. I just hop this changes and we can improve our Game and go ALL the WAY…..Let’s do it Again!!

  31. let’s pray that on Thursday we carry the day.its not time for critiscim. let’s advise where necessary. Ba coach allow Mateo kalaba to be a free molecule,he will do wonders. pls let Evans partner Mayuka and the guy who scored. Note:All the teams r there 4a win.its not ease pls let’s support our coach and chipolopolo boys.its too late no matter how we may insult it won’t change anything.pls he’s our coach as for now.pray 4him to change and 4our boys.chipolopolo iyeeee! 7points for ZAMBIA. be blest Zambians.
