It still feels like a dream, and I don’t want to wake up!- Daka on opening his EPL account

Zambia national team forward Patson Daka made history on Saturday when he became the first player to ever score in the English Premier League when he scored the fourth goal in Leicester’s 4-2 win over Manchester United.

The goal was his first Competitive goal in Leicester City colors and the Zambian forward was over the moon saying it was a dream come true. Daka is however already dreaming of a lot more goals for the Foxes.

The 2017 CAF young player of the year also revealed that he did not want to make any mistake when he came on to replace Nigerian forward, Kelechi Iheanacho.

“It meant so much to me for my confidence, and it’s something that I’ve been looking forward to,” Daka told LCFC TV.

“It still feels like a dream, and I don’t want to wake up! I’m just so excited and happy that I got to open my scoring account with this club, and I look forward many more.”

“I was just praying that I shouldn’t make any mistake because it’s so crazy. I had to concentrate fully and I managed to score, which was very important,” he added.

Daka was also quick to heap praise on his teammates and coaching staff for the support they have given him. He believes the goal will give him an extra boost for his confidence.

“It was really important for me, for my confidence, but also the team. It was a very crazy game, very intense against a tough opponents, and it’s all because of the support that I received from my teammates, from the coaching staff, and everyone at the Club, including the fans. To get the goal, it gives me an extra boost for my confidence,” he said.

Daka also revealed what the manager Brendan Rodgers said to him before his introduction: He just told me to go and pick up from where Kelechi [Iheanacho] had left, because he did his very best, and he did everything that he could, so it was my time now to go and do my very best,” he said.

“He told me: ‘Don’t have pressure, just do what you do’, and that’s what I went to do.

“It’s not something that will make us go crazy, because there’s still a lot of games ahead of us, and we have to concentrate on the game in Russia. There’s no time to really dwell on this victory. We have to focus on the next game.”

Before his switch to England Daka scored 68 times in 125 appearances for RB Salzburg in all competitions in Austria.

His 27 strikes in only 28 appearances saw him finish as the Austrian Bundesliga’s top scorer last term, as well as being named the league’s Player of the Season.
