The 2016 FIFA Extraordinary Congress, has elected Gianni Infantino as the new President for the football world governing body to replaced the disgraced Swiss, Sepp Blatter.
The 45 year old Swiss-Italian lawyer who is also UEFA General Secretary needed a second round of voting to edge Sheikh Salman 115 to 88.
The Football Association of Zambia FAZ and CAF had thrown their weight behind Bahrain’s Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa.
Final count for FIFA Presidential elections:
Gianni Infantino 115
Sheikh Salman 88
Prince Ali 4
Jerome Champaigne 0
Tokyo Sexwale (Withdrew)
No more inkongole ba Kalu.CAF has lost the FIFA ELECTIONS. NEXT TO LOSE IS FAZ officials and We will start afresh.
Tokyo withdrew? too bad
Tokyo had no chance as Africa had already decided to vote for a man from the Middle East. He did well to withdraw to avoid humiliation.
Its a swiss man again? ya!!!! there is no change, we are in trouble.
Same old story….sorry other continents!
….hate to say it but the saying (Muzungus world ) pops up again.
FIFA has to be reformed but the problem is most continental bodies who have the power to initiate these changes are controlled by corrupt men such as veteran Issa Hayatou who is in turn supported by corrupt men and women heading national federations. It’s a chain and the most effective way to change is to clean up the system from bottom up. It wont help to have a new FIFA President committed to best practices if the gravy train of federation and confederation bosses is left intact.
This is a very good lesson to CAF because their man lost….this issue of a block vote has got bad consequences let individual associations vote for who they think is the best candidate…CAF imposed their man on the whole continent even though it was clear he was not the favourite. Infantano is president now….do you think he will have a soft spot for Africa after all this block vote nonesense?
Congrats..please deal with CAF thieves for me
Kalu should also join sepp
Indeed good lesson to CAF.No corruption involved. Hayatou must also be probed & suspended.
Some Africans didnt vote as commonly speculated. I have good information to that effect. Congrats to the new FIFA president.
One of the v.p. aspiring candidate from the c/belt & also on not so great Kalu’s side said Kalu is the best candidate coz he’s able to solicit for more cup games from companies using his so called influence in Zambia. Now the question is,Kalu has been in FAZ for 18 good years, why didn’t he do it?I’m also disappointed with Power Dynamos for putting their weight behind destructive Kalu.
