The truth that nobody wants to acknowledge.
The decline of the Zambian team in the CAF rankings has been a hot topic. Numerous people have attempted to rationalize it through a variety of reasons such as foreign quotas, “reduced budgets”, and so forth.
However, the truth is simple and yet, no one wants to accept it or discuss it.
The primary reasons are the following:
1- Poor field conditions
2- Lack of youth development programs inside the clubs
3- Outdated methodologies by the majority of coaches
4- Absence of technology support to analyze training sessions and games
5- Terrible standard of game officiating
6- Absence of a distinctive style of play or club identity
7- Training techniques that are 40 years old
8- Insufficient education level among players
9-Increasing of age cheating removing up to 8 years
The assertion that quality players don’t join due to insufficient pay may be a reason. However, the truth is, good players desire to play and train using modern methods, and they’re not inclined to participate in a rudimentary ‘kick and run’ system.
Which Club produces profit to invest in players and club development in the country?
Our humble opinion:
The heavyweight clubs need to make investments in young coaches, players, facilities

Just asking, isn’t this the Choma or Livingstone stadium??
– at least it’s not getting any worse – is one way of looking at the problem.
Bombas Grounds in Kanyama
How I wish kamanga can read this article. Well articulated and hundred percent truth. If faz can read this Bruce Mwape wouldn’t be in charge of the women’s team. Yes they win but they don’t play the modern football. They type of football our women national team play is full of stone age tactics….
Most or all of the stadia in Zambia apart from levy and heroes where built before independence and have never under gone any up grade, Is this normal as a country sure. Look at Arthur Davies in Kitwe where land which could be used for stadium expansion and improvement has been dematcated into residential plots. Meaning these people have no plan whatsoever for expansion and improvement. New construction at imboela and Green Eagles in Choma don’t add value to what is currently happing. Same old story when they could do a small but good quality stadium.
Great article and fully agree with your points. I am from England and coaching an eastern division 1 team. The only thing I would add to this is all the coaches cannot commit their full time to trainings and games because of work commitments. This is completely understandable but makes it hard to develop a team and players as stability and coaching possibilities are limited. Anyone who wants please do get in touch!
More than 50 years after independence Zambia stadia still looks like chicken runs.
