GREEN BUFFALOES OUTCLASS QUEENS TO WIN INAUGURAL FAZ WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP CROWN

2019 Lusaka FAZ Women’s League Champions Green Buffaloes Women’s football club thrashed Central Province defending Champions, Queens Academy 9-0 to win the inaugural FAZ Women’s National championship.

Buffaloes boss Charles Haalubono made four changes to the team that beat Indeni Roses on post-match penalties in the semifinal with Annie Kibanji, Memory Nthala, Cynthia Mutale, and Judith Zulu came on to replace Anita Mulenga, Sharon Chileshe, Ethel Chama and Mary Mwakapila who was serving a suspension after being sent off in the match against Indeni.

Queens Academy head coach Jackson Katoba maintained the team that thrashed Solwezi Academy 10-0 in their semifinal clash.

The Lusaka based outfit were the clear favorites and they showed it from the word go as they quickly stamped their authority on the match.

Rachel Nachula put the Soldiers in the lead nine minutes before the captain of the side Joana Benaya could double the lead with a beautiful long-range strike and within 15 minutes they were 3-0 up, Irene Lungu with a beautifully headed goal to put Buffaloes firmly in control of the match.

In the second half, the Green Buffaloes continued their dominance and it was only a matter of by what margin the match would end.

Cynthia Mutale got her name on the score sheet with a fine finish from close range before Maylan Mulenga could grab a brace and make it six nil.

Rachel Nachula then took over the show after missing a number of chances grabbing a second-half hat-trick to make it 9-0, But Queens Academy can comfort themselves with a brave fight they put up against a team with over Six Copper Queens regular players.

In the end, it was a well-deserved win for Green Buffaloes. The other big winner on the day was FAZ Women’s representative aspirant Col Priscilla Katoba who is the owner of Queens Academy and also the President of Green Buffaloes.

Green Buffaloes pocketed K40 000 as Champions, Queens Academy walked away with K20 000 while Solwezi Academy and Indeni Roses each walked away with K10 000.
