MTN Super League side Mufulira Wanderers say they are reviewing the future of defender Bwembya Kakungu after he was convicted of assault and sentenced to six months in prison.
In a statement released on Friday, the club said it had taken note of the court’s decision and reiterated that violence has no place at Mufulira Wanderers, in football or in society.
The nine-time Zambian champions said they respected the ruling and would now assess the matter in line with the club’s internal policies, the player’s contractual obligations and applicable football regulations before deciding on his status.
“We uphold the values of discipline, respect and responsible conduct, both on and off the field,” the club said, adding that any further decision regarding Kakungu would be communicated through the appropriate channels.
The statement was issued by the Mufulira Wanderers Football Club Board and comes as the club prepares for the upcoming MTN Super League Transitional League season.
