Lameck Banda, Chepeshi poised to start as Grants contemplates tinkering

The Chipolopolo Boys will return to action on Sunday night as they take on Tanzania in their second group F encounter at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

Zambia played to a 1-1 draw in their opening match against DR Congo. Yoane Wissa cancelled out a Klings Kangwa opening goal to make sure the two teams settled for a point each.

The Taifa Stars on the other hand suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at the hands of Africa’s highest ranked side, Morocco.

Ahead of this match, Tanzania has had to shake up their technical bench after head coach Adel Amrouche was banned for eight games by CAF following his remarks on Morocco

He has since been replaced by Hemed Suleiman Morocco in the interim capacity and will be the man in charge against the Chipolopolo Boys.

Back to the Chipolopolo Boys, Avram Grant is expected to tinker around with his starting lineup this evening.

Serie A livewire Lameck ‘The Beast’ Banda is likely to start on the wings as Grant looks to go all out attack in search of Zambia’s first win at AFCON in over a decade.

Banda started on the bench on Wednesday much to the displeasure of some sections of the  fans.

Red Arrows right back Benedict Chepeshi could be introduced in place of Tandi Mwape as Grant looks for an outlet in aim to increase the attacking prowess of his side.

There is also a possibility of the skipper Lubambo Musonda dropping to the right back position, a place he is familiar with and mostly plays at Silkeborg IF.

The former Chelsea boss could also look to introduce either Clatous Chota Chama or Rally Bwalya in midfield in place of either Emmanuel Banda or Klings Kangwa.

The Chipolopolo Boys and the Taifa Stars will square off this evening at the Laurent Pokou Stadium.

Kickoff for the match is at 19:00 hours (CAT).

Zambia Probable XI: Lawrence Mulenga – Benedict Chepeshi, Frankie Musonda, Stopilla Sunzu, Rodrick Kabwe – Kelvin Kapumbu, Emmanuel Banda, Kings Kangwa, – Lameck Banda, Patson Daka, Fashion Sakala

    • Retain Tandi Mwape and replace Emmanuel Banda with Kelvin Kampamba in that squad. Benedict will be chasing shadows. Kampamba is speedy, dribbler and over the pitch

  1. This is a game I would rest Sunzu and have Thandi Mwape and Frankie play center back. Rest Emmanuel banda and bring in Miguel Chaiwa. Rest Lubambo Musonda and bring in Lameck Banda.

  2. Well balanced to start with Benedict chepeshi which means the striking force we be sharp it’s when will see fashion, partson and Banda in midfield I believe chilufya can do better because is fast, kings, Larry then we are done defense we have no problem Go Zambia Go we are behind you
