Golden Arrows release Mwape Musonda

Zambian striker Mwape Musonda has been released by South African PSL side Golden Arrows.

The 24 year old former Zanaco player who was on loan at Arrows from Orlando Pirates has been shade off after the club opted to promote younger players from its development teams.

“Both Chapman (another player released) and Musonda were on loan at the club and in order for us to blood in young players we need to downsize the club and that has been the reason why we released them,” Arrows coach Clinton Larsen told Kickoff.

Musonda featured in 15 of the club’s 23 games scoring two times.

He rose to prominence in South Africa after he was signed by Orlando Pirates in February last year when he impressed Eric Tinkler in a friendly with Boston University where he was studying.

He however only made two substitute appearances at Pirates last season before he was sent out on loan to Arrows.

Musonda has so far received one national team cap in a friendly match.

  1. I saw this coming coz this guy’s performance has been below par. He was overated. The best thing for him to do is come back home and regroup. He should join teams like Lusaka tigers…

  2. This is just a testament to the need for real football academies and real mental and psychological training.

This young man may have been athletic and physically prepared, but he went from University to playing in a professional league. He clearly wasn’t ready mentally or maybe tactically. I hope he can find a club that has the patience, or that he can go back and finish school.

  3. He was not only overrated he is also just a useless player God knows how he even manager to get that even one cap while much much more better players like Walter are not any were the National team.

  4. Guyz you are all caught offside . Mwape he is a good player he proved to you by scoring goals . 23 appearances means he was impressing the coach.. And of you you just comment you are clueless .. Mwape musonda played for zanaco and he even scored a goal against orando pirates in champions league… .. That boy is well manage he will soon get another club..

  5. If you get released by a club like Golden Arrows, then I don’t know where else you will play football in South Africa. Just go join one of ZPL clubs.

  6. Also it reveals complacency on the part of Coach Lwandamina on players’ selection. The only reason he brought Muzo to Chipolopolo is because he listened Eric Tinckler’s assessment of the boy after a mere friendly…who is Tinckler anyway? He is neither Mourinho nor Pep who are gurus of the game …Like someone said already it’s not fair on more deserving players.

  7. Mwape Musonda played for konkola blades where he came out second top scorer behind Evans Kangwa in 2011 before he made a bad choice of joining zanaco fc the following year. prior to joining zanaco, he had attracted interest from power dynamos fc, the caf champions league representatives in that year, Nkana fc who where moulding a team to land a record 12th league title and zesco, the most well organised team in Zsl.at zanaco, it has been difficult for players from c/b to perform i.e Rabby Lwambula, Allan Mukuka, Elson Mkandawire, Venicious Mapande, Iginitius Lwipa.the list goes on.
