From being a journeyman and almost quitting to being a Buffaloes pillar- The remarkable story of Fredrick Mwimanzi

After being on the move in almost every season’s transfer window, it looks like he has now found the permanent club where he can call home. He has never spent more than two seasons at his past clubs.

The Green Buffaloes defender seems to have now settled at the Zambia army-sponsored outfit. The ZamFoot Crew caught up with Mwimanzi to talk about his career so far.

He draws inspiration to play football from his elder brother who plays for the army-sponsored outfit under the kabwe division command who are Chindwin centries FC currently plying their trade in division one of the provincial league.

“My elder brother inspired me to play football, yes he is a footballer playing for Chindwin Sentries from kabwe,” he said.

‘An investment in knowledge pays the best interest’, said the founding father of the united states Benjamin Franklin.

Mwimanzi did what Benjamin Franklin said. He did his primary education at Mubanga Chipoya and after that, he did his junior and senior secondary education at Kasama boys.

He was born on 5th October 1996 in Kasama the provincial capital of the northern province in a family of 6 and he is the 5th child.

His first amateur club was Kasama United after which he followed his coach who went to Mpande Youth Soccer Academy where he spent two seasons.

Upon completion of senior secondary education, his fine form was noticed by the National Assembly football club.

He spent one and half seasons with the parliamentarians who at the time were in the top flight of the Zambian football circles and after they were demoted, he joined another super league outfit who had just won promotion in the name of Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy

“I wanted to join Red Arrows unfortunately things didn’t work out but I trained with them for 6 months before I left to join Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy,” Mwimanzi told the ZamFoot Crew in an exclusive interview.

For one to succeed in the related field, he must taste what it takes to be in it as they say experiments are necessary for the experiences that create growth and new opportunities.

He had jumped from one super league team to another with the hope that one will keep him in Zambia’s top tier football league but to no avail, as all kept on getting relegated, and at times when things don’t work out, he almost resorted to quitting.

“In 2018 when we got demoted with Kabwe youth soccer academy (KYSA), I almost gave up on football but I said hey, I need to finish this race and kept going,” he said.

KYSA got demoted from the Super League, he kept the faith of trying again in the super league as he joined the Uranium side in Lumwana Radiants for the 2019/2020 transition league of Kalumbila district, within the North-Western province.

The move was a loan agreement between KYSA and Lumwana radiants. Through the middle of the 2019/2020 season, his contract with the parent club KYSA expired, and became a free agent.

He set his ever-busy moving wheels on the road towards kabwe town and joined Kabwe Warriors where he signed a short contract of 6 months. His good defensive showing made Green Buffaloes FC take notice and they managed to get on board for the 2020/2021 football season.

Mwimanzi has also played for his nation at the junior level. Mwimanzi prefers a number 6 role but has spent most of his career playing at center back represented the nation at the under-17 in 2013 against Niger and under 20 in 2015 against South Africa.

When asked to describe his debut season with the army sponsored side who at one point were feared to be heading to the national league sponsored by EDEN university but turned things around in the second half of the season as they finished 9th on the table, four points shy of CAF club competition slot, Fredrick Mwimanzi said it was a good season though he felt disappointed with the failure to play continental football.

“The 2020/2021 season was a great one though I wasn’t happy very happy with the position of the team,” he said.

It is hoped that the 2021/22 FAZ super league season will provide a good different test and that Fredrick Mwimanzi and the team will achieve what they failed to accomplish in the just-ended season.

Mwimanzi picked scoring against Nkana in the 5-0 win in the first round of the season as his best football memory so far.

“Scoring against Nkana this just ended season when we beat them 5-0, the team which I grew up supporting when I was young would say is the best moment in my football journey so far,” he said.
