Former Chipolopolo coach appointed Angola boss

Former Chipolopolo coach Patrice Beaumelle has been appointed as new head coach of the Angola.

The 47-year old Frenchman was presented as new Palancas Negras breeder on two-year contract to succeed Pedro Gonçalves.

He was last in charge of UMM Salal SC of Qatar.

This will be Beaumelle’s second spell in Angola.

He will take charge of Angola’s FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers against eSwatini and Angola.

Fifteen years ago, Beaumelle together with his compatriot Herve Renard quit their Chipolopolo roles to join Angola.

After a string of poor results, they were sacked and headed to Algeria were they took charge of USM Algiers.

Having won the African Cup of Nations twice [Zambia and Ivory Coast] as Renard’s assistant, the Frenchman took over as Morocco’s Olympic team [Under-23] in 2019.

Within a year, he left Morocco and became the head coach of Ivory Coast and was in-charge of the Elephants for 2 years.

After the expiry of his contract with Ivory Coast, he rejoined USM Algiers and guided them to the 2024 Algerian title.
