Kalengo Takes Charge as ZESCO Suspend Siwale, Hachilensa

MTN Super League giants ZESCO United have suspended head coach Emmanuel Siwale and first assistant Clive Hachilensa with immediate effect as the club reviews its technical setup and recent performances.

The decision follows Zega Mambo’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Mutondo Stars, a result that marked their fourth consecutive loss and ended their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 ABSA Cup.

Club legend Winston Kalengo has been appointed interim head coach and will lead the technical bench during the review period. He will be assisted by fellow former ZESCO United players Mwape Mwelwa, Jacob Banda, Emmanuel Msichili, and Kondwani Mtonga.

Kalengo enjoyed a decorated playing career, winning multiple MTN Super League titles, finishing as the league’s top scorer twice, and being crowned Zambian footballer of the year in 2015.

In a statement, the club confirmed the temporary changes to the technical bench.

“Further, the following changes have been made to the technical bench. Head Coach Emmanuel Siwale and First Assistant Coach Clive Hachilensa have temporarily been suspended with immediate effect. The suspension follows the ongoing review of the team’s technical setup and Club performance.

During this period, the technical bench will be led by Winston Kalengo, Mwape Mwelwa, Jacob Banda, Emmanuel Mschili and Kondwani Mtonga.”

The club said the decision was taken after careful consideration and in the best interest of stakeholders.
