Mathews Banda Leaves for Czech Republic to Join Bohemians Praha 1905

Chipolopolo defender Mathews Banda has left Zambia for the Czech Republic to begin a new chapter of his career with Czech First League side Bohemians Praha 1905.

Banda sealed a long-term deal with the Prague-based club last month, completing a move from National League side Kafue Celtic FC.

Kafue Celtic confirmed the defender’s departure and praised his development at the club, while also acknowledging the role played by Nkana FC in his growth as a player.

“Kafue Celtic FC can officially confirm the departure of Mathews Banda, who has completed a move to Czech top-flight side Bohemians Praha 1905.

Banda has been an exceptional talent within the Crocs setup, and his dedication, hard work and growth at the club have now earned him the opportunity to take the next step in European football.

The club would also like to extend a big thank you to Nkana Football Club for the role they played in helping develop the player during his football journey.

Everyone at Kafue Celtic FC wishes Mathews the very best as he begins this exciting new chapter in the Czech Republic.”

Bohemians Praha 1905 had earlier confirmed the signing on their official website when the move was finalized. Banda will now link up with fellow Chipolopolo international Benson Sakala at the club.

The 20-year-old defender arrives in the Vršovice district of Prague after spending time on loan at Nkana and building a growing reputation with the Zambia national team.

Banda featured in all three of Zambia’s matches at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, having made his senior Chipolopolo debut shortly after turning 20. Prior to that, he represented Zambia at Under-20 level, making his debut at just 17 years and six months.

In 2022, Banda also gained valuable international exposure during a two-week trial with Austrian giants FC Red Bull Salzburg. His performances in the Zambian league, including his stint at Nkana, attracted interest from clubs in Morocco and Spain before he ultimately finalized his move to Bohemians.
