FAZ to spend K33m in 2015

THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has proposed a K33,273,219 million budget for 2015.

FAZ treasurer Kelvin Mutafu, who presented the budget, said the association will spend K32,179,926 million thereby leaving a surplus of K1,093,293 million.

The association last year spent K27,677,590 million accruing a deficit of K1,045,679 million.

FAZ will spend K4,217,750 million on staff salaries while K90,000 will go towards audit fees.

He said FAZ will receive kit worth K637,000 from the Nike sponsorship deal while the sports manufacturing firm will give FAZ K1,365,000.

Mutafu, however, said the projected amount from Nike might increase because the association is negotiating with the renowned sports kit manufacturer to renew the contract which expires this year.

The national soccer governing body expects K1,365,000 from Zambian Breweries Group who are co-sponsors of the national soccer team.

Mutafu said the association also expects K8,400,000 from MTN Zambia, who also sponsor the Super Division as well as the Chipolopolo.

This was reviewed at the annual AGM where the Councillors also threw out the proposed amendment to the FAZ constitution which were aimed at tightening eligibility for the FAZ presidency.

  1. It’s clear that FAZ needs to start partnering with corporate sponsors for the national teams. The association finished with a deficit, but what happened to funds received for the Japan friendly or the FIFA money for the women’s under 17 world cup qualification. They are failing to pay players properly yet no effort is being made to correct the situation. This organization has brought about some good things, but they are lacking a little in practical matters. The lack of transparency is also turning off any real sponsorships, even government is slow to reach for their pockets. So much could have been done after winning afcon, that momentum could have brought so much money into the association, I guess being champions for 1 year also didn’t help.

  2. one expenditure is missing. k7 1300 000 on kalus expenses which includes daily air tickets from and to south Africa four times in a week for a year. house rentals and metro police security payments to south African government for guarding him. etc. no words

  3. man, this Kalu guy is becoming a disgrace to the Zambian football followers. I feel so bad how our own local coaches are being mistreated in their own country. Who is going to respect and trust us-Africans if we cannot respect ourselves. Truly by any means Kalu has to go.I just feel like I am Janza myself the ill treatment is receiving from this bogus FAZ administration. They guys has done his best with the recourses he had at his disposal. It took two solid years to find his foot to stabilize Chipolopolo. If fact Renard struggled even to beat Rwanda in our own backyard. No one can do perfect job,all we need is respect to everyone regardless of their background. We need to appreciate our own because the so called foreign coaches come and go. In fact if you let them go before the end of their contract, they will make you pay heavily just like we just did. It is all tax payers money and Kalu does not care at all!!!Our own are doing even without a contract even though some cannot appreciate them.

      • Ba Positive thinking-It is so sad that some people cannot appreciate our own coaches. Nangu umuchinsi fye mwe bantu! It will not cost you any thing I can assure you Kalu.
They only expect miracles from our local coaches. Seriously, how many serious international friendlies did we play before 2015 AFCON? Hope the government is not on Kalu’s side.
Yes we need a competent coach who can deliver even at higher stages, but meanwhile as we are looking for this particular coach, we SHOULD respect our current local coach. He deserve our respect and appreciations. How will others feel like the U23 coach who is still in charge of the contention?
But abantu bamo?leadership is so poor!!!

  4. Just as much as Janza was always messing up the team selections and I was one of his critic on that aspect,I do not condone the way he has been treated.Indeed we need to support the local Coaches as much as we do to the foreign ones and we just have to rebuild or rather train them, local, that is the only way that they will have the needed experience.Hence,Kalu let the guy continue and give him time and also will save on some tax payer’s money or is that Kalu just want to be getting cut from the new coach since he knows he ,new coach, will be given a contract unlike Janza, sad.

  5. I don’t understand something here, was Janza not always appointed as the caretaker coach? was there ever a time he was appointed head coach?

I feel for local coaches and feel there is not great effort to up-skill them by the FA but Janza should not moan truth be told, he was always caretaker coach.

    • You are right ba Big Steve. However, all we are asking from the FAZ administration is just a little bit of respect and appreciations to everyone serving the nation regardless of the capacity they are being appointed. That is all!FAZ will be respected as well.

  6. Our National team has a budget of just over 50 million rands for the whole year…eish talk about broke for sure. This is less than the annual budget of basic clubs in the PSL.

  7. Zambia-: Mediocrity’s paradise.

The the mentality of Zambians, support mediocracy just because its “Zambian”. It does not matter if someone is mediocre or not good, we must rally behind them and support them just because they are “our own”. Kalu is not a great or good administrator but people are still rallying behind him EVEN when its clear he has vast shortcomings. Janza was exposed at the highest level this past African cup yet, we still stand here and clamour for him to continue on while our football is in a downward tailspin. Who suffers in the end, the people do, the players do, the fans do! In other countries, the people in charge and the serious fans are quick to instigate or bring about change regardless of whether and individual is indigenous or not because and the end of the day WINNING is the goal! As it stands not local coach is capable of winning the African Cup Of Nations. Not because they are hopeless, but because they lack that Technical know how, that ability to bring the best out of an average player, the ability to identify talent, the skill to put ego aside and pick players on merit and the BALLS to stand on their own and not be another puppet for FAZ. That’s why Renard was good for Zambia, he had most of these intangibles. I agree that We need to urgently identify a few locals and attach them to some European teams for a season or two, so the can swim in the waters of professional football coaching at the highest levels and then bring them back to coach at the Junior levels U17/20 then proceed to the national team. Its not only our players who require that “Professional” experience but our coaches as well, and this
So people can go on and on debating this issue on this site and pretend that they are solving the problem by wrapping themselves in the Zambian flag and holding that mediocre attitude even tighter…….YOU ARE DECEIVING YOURSELVES. Look at those you have entrusted with leadership at all levels. Are they the best Zambia has to offer? Are they the best reflection of you and your beliefs…….? Are they taking our football forward….? Will they take Zambia to the world cup? Its not about African cup anymore, we have conquered that mountain already. when the rigours of qualifying for the world cup cup come up again, do you see Kalusha and Janza navigating the perils of this treacherous route given the history they have imposed on us???? It takes more than just kicking a football to qualify for this tournament, BUT planning – travel, camping, team selection, coaching analysis etc. Not the nonsense of traveling in Batches a day or two before a game and expect miracles. Have a technical bench who is able to have game tape of the Opponent, not giving the usual ” i don’t know much about the other team, but we will perform” when we have the Internet that is a vast arena filled with information. When we play a friendly against Rwanda, who gains more us or them? Yet we play these games just to fulfill schedules. What happen to all those high level friendlies Kalusha promised…….? Yet we still clamour for the “great Kalu”, he is still one of the best if not the best (at least the best Zambian player of my lifetime) but that does not mean he is untouchable. Accomplishments on the pitch OUTSTANDING,BUT He is simply not a good administrator and has shown the tendency for dictatorship. What about the women’s team that was disbanded because the players rightly asked for their dues….?? Aren’t they worthy of praises and compensation for making history and representing the country magnificently and with dignity? Yet we discard them to the roadside for complaining(rightly) about not getting their due. Then we hastily assemble a shell of a team with different girls to compete and they get smashed, by a team that we had already beaten not too long ago. Now is that not stupidity at its highest?? Yet Kalusha and co are not taken to task about this and we carry on. And the girls are expendable…..??? Kalusha is using his perch atop the Zambian football ladder to further his own ambitions(whatever they maybe) at the expense of millions of Zambians who hold the game dear to their hearts. I will continue to say this, we have some of the most talented and skilled players on this continent top 4…..SKILL WISE. But we fail to harness this talent into something special, and for that we need men and women in charge of football who are capable of pushing these young men and women playing this beautifully game to the next level. But it seems we will continue to back to the drawing board we love so much and pretending the problem is not us but someone else’s doing…..

    KK11

    • KK11, I agree that mediocrity should not be rewarded, but I’m sure you can also see that our local coaches are being asked to walk into tournaments handicapped by poor preparation, but still asked to go as far as the semi finals. It’s not right man. Fire him, that’s fine, but give these guys a fair shake. Pay them as well, coz apparently that’s optional for locals.

      • Even a thank you mwabomba twatotela!!It make someone feel appreciated! Not insult directed towards a person who is in charge of the team.
        Positive thinking mwalanda bwino sanaaa!

    • Very well said KK11. I wish this article will be read by many football stakeholders in Zambia who have influence in FAZ administration. However,I just want to point out one thing for the sake of clarification as far as our locals is concern. We are not trying to defend mediocrity here. All we are asking is that FAZ administrators should acknowledge and respect the locals in whatever capacity they appoint them. Not treating them like refugees in their own country. We all want excellency. We all want to go to the world cup under competent coaches .We do not want to go there to only be mere participants or go there just to donate points to whoever we encounter. We want to be at the world cup as serious contenders. No doubt at all,our “owns” have proved that they are not ready to take us to higher levels yet.We can all testify what happened at all levels of the soccer tournaments we have participated this year, save the U23 one, at least until now.We cannot forget as well that it is the local ones who are always there to rescue us when the so called foreign coaches opt to abandon us.So our local coaches needs to be appreciated for their willingness to do jobs with very minima resources provided to them.

  8. I seem not to get it,the government is always preaching about promoting local expertise and here Kalu is busy giving jobs to outsiders which even the locals are able to do all this in the name of kick backs,am so sure that even the people they offer jobs to are always laughing at their backs, shame on all you clowns at Faz.

    • That is right Discipline!!!I am sure they are laughing at us with our average leadership. This kind of behavior of demeaning our own people goes beyond football circle. It is Okay to bring an expert but then they should offer something extra which locals cannot offer to us. Even then, let there be respect and appreciations to everyone with national interest at heart.
