The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has approved Solwezi’s Independence Stadium to be used for MTN Super League matches.
This comes after renovations to the Stadium through the FIFA Funded Stadia project.
The extensive renovation project, which commenced last year, absorbed approximately $300,000 in funding.
“Trident Football Club is delighted to announce the approval of Solwezi Independence Stadium by the Football Association of Zambia for MTN Super League football matches.
This long-awaited development is a dream come true for our Executive Committee and the loyal fans of Trident FC.”
Trident FC CEO Mvula Mangulenje expressed excitement with the development.
“We have longed to see our team compete in the Super League within our province, and today, this wish becomes a reality,” he said.
In celebration of this Trident FC have set entry for their next match against Red Arrows on Saturday free of charge.
“We encourage our fans to come out in large numbers and support the team as we aim to establish Solwezi Independence Stadium as a formidable fortress for Trident FC.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to FIFA, the Football Association of Zambia, and the Regional Association for their support in making this facility available to the people of the North Western Province.”
The extensive renovations included work on the pitch, dressing rooms, stands, and other critical areas the ZamFoot Crew understands.
The David Kaunda Stadium in Chipata was the first to undergo extensive renovation with FIFA Forward support and was handed over to the Government in September last year.
Two other projects, supported by FIFA Forward, are currently underway in Zambia, two of them involving the renovation of other stadiums (Kasama and Kaole) around the country while the fourth will see the refurbishment of the FAZ’s accommodation centre.
