The Copper Queens will face guest side and defending Champions, Tanzania in the first of the two semi-finals at the ongoing 2022 COSAFA Women’s Championship in South Africa set for this Friday, 9th September, 2022.
Kick-off will be at 12h00 and the repeat of the 2021 semi-final fixture will be live on SuperSport, GOtv and will be streamed live on Cosafa.tv and FIFA+.
Both Zambia and Tanzania are unbeaten with the Copper Queens recording a 100% winning rate from Group B amassing 9 points, scoring 11 goals plus a clean sheet in three games while the Twiga Stars topped Group C with 7 points scoring 6 goals and conceding just once.
It will be an interesting game as it pits two of the pre-tournament favorites.
Barbra Banda who is the current top goalscorer with eight goals is expected to lead the Copper Queens as she aims to continue with her extraordinary performance and boost her case for top goalscorer and player of the tournament awards.
The Copper Queens and Twiga Stars will revive their rivalry having met last year at the same stage of the competition with Tanzania winning 3-2 on postmatch penalties after a 1-1 draw with Lushomo Mweemba scoring an own goal while Grace Chanda found the back of the net for Zambia.
The Copper Queens are yet to win this tournament having come close in 2019 only to lose to Banyana Banyana in the final.
Following their impressive showing at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Bruce Mwape’s lasses are eager to get some silverware in there trophy cabinet and set a tone for their World Cup preparations.
Meanwhile, hosts and youthful side South Africa will take on Namibia later in the day at 15:30hours in another semi-final at the same venue with the winner facing either Zambia or Tanzania in Sunday’s final set for Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium at 15:30hours while the losers will face each other in the third and fourth-place play-off match at 12:00hours on the same day.
