Copper Queens regroup in Lusaka ahead of send off match

The Zambia Women’s National Team, known as the Copper Queens, has regrouped in the vibrant city of Lusaka. 

They are embarking on a journey that will take them to the prestigious FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, scheduled from July 20 to August 20, 2023. 

As the nation rallies behind the COSAFA Champions, the team is leaving no stone unturned in their preparations, including a rigorous pre-tournament camp in Germany.

Before departing for their pre-World Cup training camp in Germany, the Copper Queens are set to receive a hero’s farewell at home. 

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has announced a grand send-off match, providing an opportunity for Zambian fans to rally behind their national team and bid them farewell in style.

 The game promises to be a celebration of the team’s achievements and a momentous occasion for women’s football in Zambia.

The Copper Queens have chosen the esteemed Prince Charles Hotel in Lusaka as their base. 

With their sights firmly set on the Women’s World Cup, the team will undergo intensive training, fine-tuning their skills and tactics under the watchful eyes of Coach Bruce  Mwape and his technical bench.

Before the start of the prestigious World Cup, the Copper Queens will set up their base in Furth, Germany, immersing themselves in the heart of European football. Here, they will face off against high-profile opponents, including the Republic of Ireland, Switzerland, and the host nation, Germany.

 These matches will serve as crucial tests, allowing the team to gauge their progress and further refine their strategies ahead of the grand tournament.

The Copper Queens have already played seven high-level friendlies. As part of their preparations, they have confirmed two crucial fixtures against the Republic of Ireland and Germany on June 22 and July 7, respectively. 

The anticipation is palpable as the Copper Queens are drawn into Group C at the Women’s World Cup.

On July 22, the team will step onto the global stage for the first time, facing off against the formidable team from Japan. 

Four days later, they will take on Spain, followed by a clash with Costa Rica on July 31.
