The Zambia Women’s National team has maintained their 100 percent winning start to the 2022 COSAFA Women’s Championship following a 2-0 win over Eswatini.
Coach Bruce Mwape made eight changes to the team that thrashed Lesotho 7-0 on Sunday.
Eunice Sakala replaced Catherine Musonda, Esther Siamfuko replaced Margaret Belemu, Judith Soko replaced Martha Tembo, Vast Phiri replaced Agness Musesa, Mary Wilombe replaced Evarine Susan Katongo, Maweta Chilenga replaced Ireen Lungu, Enelesi Phiri replaced Ochumba Oseke Lubanji while Natasha Nanyangwe took up Misozi Zulu’s slot.
Zambia started strong creating chances Natasha Nanyangwe had her effort cleared on the line before Enelesi Phiri could hit the post, Maweta Chilenga’s follow up was blocked then Barbra Banda ‘s shot was easy to deal with by Gcinile Dlamini.
In the 23rd minute Enelesi was again denied by Dlamini before Banda could Ballon her effort over the bar. Five minutes later Banda’s effort went wide with only the keeper to beat.
Zambia finally broke the deadlock in the 40th minute as Enelesi Phiri opened her senior Women’s national team goal account with a close range finish after Banda unselfishly laid it off for the youngster.
The second half was more of the same with Zambia controlling the match and creating chances but finally to beat Dlamini in the Eswatini goal.
Zambia finally doubled their lead in the 82nd minute as Barbra Banda scored a beautiful free kick to take her tally for the tournament to 8 goals.
Midfielder Mary Wilombe was named as the player of the match following her outstanding display.
Zambia will face the winner of group C on Friday, 9th September, 2022 at the Isaac Wolfson Stadium at 12h00.
