Copper Queens eye Eswatini scalp

The Zambia Women’s National team will be looking to end their 2022 COSAFA Women’s Championship group stage campaign with a win as they face off with group B weeping girls Eswatini.

The Copper Queens are coming from a 7-0 win over Lesotho while Eswatini were handed a 5-1 bashing by Namibia.

The match is a repeat of another group stage encounter from last year where Zambia triumphed 5-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Ochumba Oseke Lubanji and a goal each from Margaret Belemu and Esther Namukwasa.

Midfielder Ireen Lungu, the female Computer, says the team wants to end the group stage with a win and set a tone for the semifinals.

“The mood in the camp is okay, Everyone is ready. we have to take our last game seriously, the only thing we want is to top the group,” Lungu said.

“The game against Eswatini will set a tone for the semifinal. The fans back home should continue supporting us and we will deliver good results,” she added.

Coach Bruce Mwape could make changes to the starting line up given that his team has already secured a place in the semifinals.

Catherine Musonda has been fantastic in goal keeping two clean sheets and could be rested for either Nkwazi Queens goalkeeper Eunice Sakala or newcomer Agness Fabiola Banda.

The back four of Lushomo Mweemba, Martha Tembo, Margaret Belemu and Agness Musesa has been rock solid keeping two clean sheets but youngsters Esther Siamfuko, Judith Soko, Esther ‘Gelo’ Banda and the experienced Vast Phiri could find their way into the team as Mwape looks to freshen up things.

In midfield, Natasha Witika, Mary Wilombe and Maweta Chilenga are available to take the place of either Lungu or the amazing Evarine Susan Katongo.

Upfront Ochumba Oseke Lubanji is expected to lead the attack alongside the tournament top goal scorer and captain Barbra Banda.

Youngsters Enelesi Phiri and Natasha Nanyangwe are also available for selection.

Kick off at the Isaac Wolfson Stadium has been set at 12:00hrs with the match live on Supersport and streamed live on SABC Sport, FIFA+ and Cosafa.tv.
