Copper Princesses technical bench sweating over Cindy Banda…As they target win over Comoros Islands

The Zambia U-17 Women’s national team technical bench is sweating over the fitness of wing wizard Cindy Banda who has a knock and may miss this afternoon clash against the Comoros Islands.

Cindy has been an influential member of the Kaluba Kangwa coached side so far with two goals to her name in the two games played. Melissa Mutaba was also rested in the 2-1 over Tanzania due to injury.

“The girls are really doing fine in training. Cindy Banda is really recovering though on a slow note, It’s a big concern for us, We hope she can be available especially for the final game. We want to have the best available Bullets for that game,” Assistant coach Carol Kanyemba told the ZamFoot Crew after a training session on Monday.

The Copper Princesses have managed two wins so far at the Tournament beating hosts South Africa and guest team Tanzania both via a 2-1 scoreline. They will be back in action this afternoon against the bottom-placed team, Comoros Islands but the technical bench and the players are taking the game very seriously as they believe there is no weak team in football.

“In football, there is no weak team and that’s what we tell the players, Every game we play is a serious match. Comoros Islands are not a bad side, Yes they lost to Tanzania but they managed to score, and again they lost to Zimbabwe they managed to score twice, they get better with every game, As we face them today, they will be a better side because they keep improving their performance and however in football the bottom teams are the hardest to face,” Carol Kanyemba said.

“We are going into this game with full force like always, if all go well we want to win all games and finish top of the group without losing any game,” she added.

Kanyemba went on to reassure the fans that the team will do anything possible to make sure they bring the trophy home.

” We can assure the fans back home that we will bring back pride to mother Zambia, we have prepared hard for this tournament, We learned a lot from last year’s tournament. We promise that we will bring nothing less than the trophy and we are going to work hard towards that,” she said.

“We know Tanzania is a bit of challenge because of size but our girls are do determined regardless of who they meet they just want to be at the top,” she added.

Zambia can seal a place in the top two and subsequently the final if they beat Comoros (kick-off 12h30), who are yet to register a point.

The other match sees Tanzania battle Zimbabwe (15h30) in a clash between two other sides with final ambitions. Victory for Tanzania and they will also seal a final berth, while Zimbabwe needs a victory or their hopes will fade.
