Clifford Mulenga has returned to home to Zambia and joined Super Division Champions Zesco United from Ajax Cape Town of South Africa.
Zesco United FC confirmed the developing stating that the former (2007) CAF Young Player of the year arrived in Ndola yesterday.
“Mulenga arrived in Ndola yesterday and was introduced to the team this morning at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium,” a statement from Zesco United FC read.
The 28 year old midfielder will play in the Zambian league for the first time after a career which has seen spend over ten years in South Africa playing for top sides including Pretoria University, Bidvest Wits, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Bloemfontein Celtic, Supersport United and most recently Ajax.

Mulenga who played a role in Zambia’s march to the Africa Cup final in 2012 joins other players players of the CAN winning squad who have returned home including Isaac Chansa, Christopher Katongo and Joseph Musonda.
Welcome home son, not place like home. You can still do it and wear those national colours again… Its possible with discipline boi
Fwayo, Nkausu, Mbesuma and Chamanga should also come back home.
This is good,I think the Zambian league will start improving and competition amongst players will now be there.
Wise decision my brother and welcome back home..looking forward to watching u pa mwanawasa..
ITS FOR BOY MAY HE WIL DISCOVER HIS FORM.
Welcome back Clifford. Good luck.
The next in line should be Mbesuma. I’m sure he will improve his game and catch the fire that once was. If you are not played, you lose confidence. Hope he will make it on the Zesco team
Well done Clifford, you are such an intelligent player, No place like home. Zambian league is becoming stronger and stronger. Wise move by Mulenga. Hard working is key and discipline.
I hop this will make our teams do well in the champions league.actually,if players never rushed to these small leagues, they would market themselves better by doing well in caf club competitions.
At one time Clifford posted that he had acquired the South African Citizenship.
If this was true, what happens now?
In South Africa, once a foreigner always a foreigner my dear. These people know how to make you feel that you don’t belong them. That’s a fact.
I don’t think he ever changed his Nationality. He may have just obtained a Permanent residence permit
he has joined the katongo brothers these are big flops. very soon the league will be like a junk yard. these old discarded players will never add value to our league. we need to work on future players not players who fail in foreign league because of discipline and age.accommodating them its like puting an old part in a blend new bmw engine.
These so called junk won us the Afcon! The young lads at home need to learn ‘something’ from these old guards; be it ball skills or the act of losing one’s best footballing years (in the case of Mulenga) due to excessive partying etc is a good lesson in itself!!
Really?. I think the league will be interesting to watch at least the up coming stars will learn one or two from old forks. Especially if they share their experiences during relaxing times. Welcome home Mulenga do your best to change things.
Good news indeed we need his services in the CHAN
We don’t need any of this madalas in the CHAN squad. How do you develop the local team which is supposed to be Zambia’s B team if you infest it with those madalas who have been prooned from the main team? All those madalas should not be allowed to be near to the CHAN squad.
The CHAN team should compose of players from the U17/20/23 and some home-based players that are under the age of 25. Even the COSAFA cup should be for players under the age of 25 and playing within Zambia. My opnion
That’s the way forward
opinion
@Mumbai. my brother from luapula we need them just like we will need u at 60.
What a waste of talent because of lack of discipline. Drinking and mahule killed this boy’s once promising career, not he is back in Zambia to finish drinking Chibuku. Nigga looks older than he is because of drinking too much. For young players out there, this is what happens when you are indiscipline, you lose a once promising career and then back to square one. Stupid as stupid does. I don’t see why people celebrate the coming back of this moffon because he will be back at the tavern.
now he is back in Zambia..
I remember watching him in the world cup in Canada 2007, his left foot, and my Nigerian friends were like this is the boy that will replace Great Kalu, but now they keep asking “Where is Clifford Mulenga”
Ghana defender Baba Abdul Rahman has touched down in London to undergo a medical ahead of the completion of his reported £21m move to Chelsea.
The 21-year-old breezed into the English capital on Tuesday afternoon and is heading straight to an unknown medical facility to undergo the medical according to the Evening Standard.
Rahman was given permission to travel to London after Ausgburg accepted Chelsea’s bid for the Ghanaian which will cost the English champions up to £21m.
Chelsea switched talks with Augsburg for Baba Rahman into an overdrive following their thrilling 2-2 draw with Swansea in their first match their English League title defence.
Officials at Stamford Bridge have prepared a five-year contract for the Ghanaian to sign once results from his medical comes clean.
The 21-year-old will also enhance his personal wages with many media outlets reporting he will be on £76,000 a week.
Have him call Mayuka while there in the UK.
sorry bro,Shlupp and Atsu have already welcomed him and rightly feeling great @ senior Essien’s abode around cobham so chill.
This boy is a gem and for those that remember my comments after Afcon 2015, he’s one of the best left backs in World (entire universe). Another one to watch from Africa currently at Lyon, is the Cameroun gem Clinton Njie (combination of Eto and Roger Milla if you ask me). Noti abena john Mayuka nafilwa still blaming Koeman while other Africans Mane and Wanyama are making it-kekekekeke. We need to psychologically urge the boys and not finding excuses (losers do so why winners take the next step).
Next in line will be Mayuka. Mayuka to join Power dynamos or Nkana. Atleast he will have game time and probably get rid of dat fat body.
Mayuka to Nkana.
That is a 21 year old ghanian defender costing chelsea a whooping £21million. And some bloggers will come here to rant that EPL is not good for African players just because of Mayuka the Great Flop.
Lol! Good one
“Mulenga who played a role in Zambia’s march to the Africa Cup final in 2012”. I thought he was sent packing. anyway welcome home.
Zamfoot is correct. He played a key role in Zambia’s qualification/match to the Africa Cup final in 2012. He was sent packing at the tournament after the team has qualified.
Did u got his final medical results? He has been diagonised with syphilis and 2moro he will be on the plane proceeding to Ashanti king 4 traditional medical treatment.
hahahaha. nice one mumbi. they think they can come here and boast abt their future flop players
Mumbi at it again.Thank God its not HIV otherwise he will soon start behaving like u.Mumbi free advise kindly go for a medical check up. It might help u come out of your current situation
Welcome to Ndola young man.
@ Kasama boy , yes Clifford acquired a South African citizenship but does not mean is now a South African. You can only acquire a RSA citizen in( 3) ways by( i )Birth( ii) Descent and ( iii) Naturalization and this is where Clifford belongs. Again depending on the conditions you can loss your citizen if you leave RSA for 3yrs. Once he is issued with RSA ID it still say Nationality Zambia, Born in Zambia. ID no. He is the son of the soil, you can’t change your Nationality but acquire Citizenship.
Are we talking about a Residence permit or citizenship. When one becomes a citizen of another Country he/she is granted the passport of that country. As Zambia does not allow dual citizenship, then Mulenga if at all it is true he is a SA citizen then he should relinquish the Zambian passport. What would this mean?
1. Mulenga is playing for ZESCO as a foreign player
2. Mulenga is not eligible to play for Zambia
With the above said I am 100 % sure Clifford was granted a SA residence permit and not citizenship. How can one be granted citizenship and loose that if one lives the country he is staying in for more than 1,2,3…….years? I have never heard of that, but maybe it is South African style (ama bunu). When you are granted citizenship of a country you can live anywhere you want and still retain your citizenship, unless you decide to change that. Only you can decide and no one else
Anyway Cifford welcome home but please learn from Emmanuel Zulu’s behavior when he returned home from SA. He joined ZESCO FC, the same club you have joined. What happened? ZESCO put him at hotel in Ndola and he incurred a bill of 10,000 ZKW less than a week. The money was spent on beer (parting with friends) and ZESCO had no choice but to kick the boy out. The truth is that most Zambian players and I repeat most do not save money at all, and end up in very sad situation when they retire. Uku jama
Hear, you are right. Mulenga was granted RSA permanent residence.
if one leaves
a bill of 10 million
That Ghanaian boy has messed up going to Chelsea he will be a bench warmer
I do not think he will be a bench warmer, as we have a Ghanaian in the name of Michael Essien, who played for the same club with a lot of success. We had a Nigerian player Obi he was a success too. This boy is just 21 and has already tested the Bundesliga where the team that is selling him are playing.
To face the fact very few West African players have failed in the EPL. We can’t compare ourselves to them and the reason is simple. We all know the reasons as to why Zambian players fail in the EPL. Just imagine even Kenya have a player at Southampton playing first team football week in and out. I watched him last Saturday he is really good
@ Justice my brother, the procedure is once you acquire( PR) Resistance Permit, the Home Affairs issue you with the following. 1) Certificate (2) PR sticker in your Passport( Zambian one) immediate upon issuing you with a PR you apply for SouthAfrican ID card. You can’t apply for RSA passport because you are a Zambian born with a Zambian passport that you will continue using until such a time when you change your status and become a RSA citizen. after 5-10 years. Your surrender a Zambian Passport and apply for a new ID and Passport.
Okay I understand. Countries have different procedures. Thanks for the clarification
@ justice you are 100 % right that was a PR. I would not renounce my Zambian status.
welcome 2 Ndola my frnd feel @ home too bad u had 2 do a ka early retirement but if u’ve made da loot then its all gud. SHIPWE SHIPWE NAKABILI
lol same old john
That talent of Clifford doesn’t finish like that.He will pick up and the league has became so excited that we can even win the CHAN cup.
Isaac Chansa, William Njovu, the Katongo brothers,Joseph Musonda with the mixture other players in the league.
Isaac Chansa, William Njovu, the Katongo brothers,Joseph Musonda should not get anywhere near the CHAN trup/team, not even COSAFA. These competitions are for player Development and not for players that have retired or failed abroad and are all over 27 years.
If some of these guys perform well the at local League, then maybe they can be considered for the senior, but that is up to the coach
Winning the CHAN ir COSAFA should not be a priority and should not appear on the agenda of FAZ. I think what most fans and supporters are waiting for is qualification to the World cup
perform well in the
@john do u thing chelsea wil buy a player value £21 and put him on the bench
@CD they can,In England anything is possible, there no gaurantees.Remember Shevchenko and Torres stories. All the Lad must do is work extra hard, stay on form too!
Shevchenko and Torres were given chances but failed to blend with the rest of the players. The boy will be given a chance and I am sure he will perform, he is just 21 years. I am also sure the boy did speak to Essien to get more information about Chelsea FC, before signing the contract. Let us wait and see and only wish the boy good luck
Boss this boy is a gem in my opinion even above level Celestine Babayaro was when he played for Chelsea. With him it’s hard work that gets to him as he was born hardworking
AND Clinton Njie is set to sign for Spurs-a. Jon watch this 21yr old stroll through EPL defences!
Thanks for the various clarifications of the status of Clifford Mulenga and also on the South African Procedure. I am now a year old here in SA and did not know their procedure. It sounds radically different from that of Finland, Sweden and Holland, where I spent more time.
Thanks bane bonse.
@ Justice Kafusha,National team is about results and results are goals no development in this case unless under17,20 and 23.Anyone who is performing is eligible for selection at national level, period.
Some Blogs On This Site Need Mental Rehabilitation.Especially You!!
work hard clifford its a talent a talent is a talent, just keep ur form i know u will make it,ka descipline fye mwaice u resemble to the brazilian deffender elvis,u can make it en play back in the national team
That s a good move clifford lets also strengthen our local league. Clifford Mulenga has made a shocking permanent move back home What is so shocking about someone coming back home?
