The Zambia national soccer team will play Gabon in an international friendly next month.
FAZ media manager Nkweto Tembwe confirmed that the match will be played on Tuesday 8th September two days after the Africa Cup qualifier against Kenya.
“The Chipolpolo will fly to Nairobi on Friday 4th of September, play on Sunday the 6th and fly out of Nairobi immediately after the match on Sunday.” Tembwe said.
“We expect a full compliment of the Chipolopolo players as this will be a FIFA day,” he added.
Gabon will on 4th August host Sudan in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier before they travel to Lusaka.
The friendly match will be played in Lusaka at Heroes Stadium and will kickoff at 18:00hrs

Why not before so that we can access our weakneses before the Kenya Game. Mind you we have already dropped points at home.
Good move though i dont see de importance of de friendly, better to play Gabon b4 de kenya game.
C bien d jouer d match amicaux
When is Zambia playing Sudan in the World cup qualifiers?
Nice move FAZ
The match is important as Zambia face Sudan in the Russia 2018 second round knockout, in October. It will also do good to the new coach if he is in place by then
I am not sure we have a FIFA day before the Kenya game, if we have then it will be nice with a friendly match before playing Kenya (we can play Tanzania for example)
That’s a hopeless endeavor . Just as good as reading after after exams. This gonna be a dirty or fund raising or match fixing .. What about if the boys lose tha game in Kenya .. The one who arranged this should go and see doctor ..
there is no difference between you and kay baby Hammer
cant u see that the game is FIFA internationl date?
@Tony Mash this match makes sense if you look at the bigger picture.
We also want to hear the appointment of a new couch for chipolopolo boys
My question is why 2days before the important game? We risk injuries and fatigue of traveling immediately after the game.
It is 2 days after the Kenya game and 2 days before
Thanx ba Justice for that correction
Its a welcome fixture, will give a chance to assess players that won’t feature against Kenya.Remember, not every player called to camp makes the starting 11.Gabon is has a good squad, with the likes Pierre Aubamayang.
Any international friendly game is important, as it helps in a lot of aspects of a game, but the timing of this one does not add value to the nearest game. i.e. that of Zambia vs Kenya as it would have passed. It is also a bit too early for the next assignment.
It would have assisted if it had been before this engagement.
Why don’t FAZ target regions when arranging international friendlies. Since we are playing Kenya, the best friendly would have been a game against Uganda or Tanzania, before the actual game in question.
When we are scheduled to play Sudan, the best would be a friendly against Ethiopia or Somalia (assuming they have a team). Similarly when we are playing Ghana or Nigeria, the best preps would be against either of them. playing an Arab team pick a friendly with an Arabic country.
How can you prepare for a Physics exam by studying Mathematics? or prepare for a Structural Engineering course by studying Civil Engineering?
That is why we struggle against simple and weaker teams.

The only positive in this game will be that it will be played on an international FIFA day. Otherwise the timing is really bad for the immediate game against Kenya. The Sudan game comes almost a month afterwards.
Every coach wants friendly games and Gabon is one worthy opponent but we have done it upside down.
Great team to play a friendly with. Neither FAZ nor Gabon FA could do anything about the timing as they both want to play on a FIFA date which makes sense as it guarantees the presence of all professionals and it also has a bearing on Fifa rankings. Would love to see Rodger Kola called up for this one.
This is better than nothing. This is welcome. Gabon has improved tremendously and will surely stretch Zambia. Even if it’s after the Kenya game. It will even be better if we are to get a good result in Kenya as the players will be motivated. It will be a FIFA week and so we should have all the players, including foreign based one. Good preparatory match before we face Sudan.
Its a good friendly Gabon has a good team, faz and the gabonese fa did not create this fifa date…..let’s hope we will have performing and fit players for kenya and gabon game
i like that team that faz has choosen,it wil be a taught game, some fans thy dont know the mean of fifa calander, even nigeria is playng wth niger on day.we shall gather at hero thanks its not nkoloma
we want mayuka, Jacob mulenga, roger Kola, and evans kangwa
Call Rodger kola please for this friendly
@paddy . That’s frivolous of triviality . The Kenya match will be a warm up for that match.. Am not being in.auscipious but what will happen if lose in Kenya .. All professionals are tried and tested . They should give chance to Chan n under 23.. And wil begin to see the importance of this friendly ..
I’m really not sure I understand what you’re driving at. What’s clear here is that we have a game against Kenya and a high profile friendly against Gabon. I hope you’re not suggesting that our Chan team should play Gabon. That would be total disaster and a lack of respect since Gabon will field their strongest side.
Well said @Paddy.
Agreed otherwise other countries will be refusing to play friendy games against Zambia knowing that Zambia might field the U17/20/23 teams
Let us be serious for gods sake
Gud move Faz we need to prepare for the game against Sudan in the World Cup qualifier. Zambia will win in Kenya no team will park the bus. We played good in Mozabique away games Zambia play good this time around.
