A clean sheet for Mweene as Sundowns reach TKO quarters

Chipolopolo goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene on Thursday evening kept a clean sheet when Mamelodi Sundowns beat Polokwane City 2 – 0 to progress to the quarter finals of the Telekom Knock-out tournament.

Mweene was one of the five changes coach Pitso Mosimane made to the team that played in the final game of the CAF champions league that saw Sundowns crowned champions despite losing 1 – 0 against Zamalek.

With Ugandan Dennis Onyango injured, Mweene got his chance as Sundowns cruised to victory via two second half goals scored by Kekana and Zane.

Sundowns had only arrived in the country 36 hours earlier.

This is news that will be welcome by the Chipolopolo technical bench as the number one shot stopper has struggled for game time with the game against Cameroon just around the corner.

The 31 year old goalie last played a competitive match when Zambian lost at home to Nigeria in a game he conceded twice.

This was only his second game of the season having played a league game earlier in the season.
