The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) wishes to announce the appointment of Wedson Nyirenda as assistant national team coach with immediate effect.
Mr Nyirenda also subsequently will be acting national team coach. The process for recruitment of an expatriate coach is still underway with finalization between FAZ and the ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development at an advanced stage.
Once this is concluded Mr Wedson Nyirenda will revert to his appointed role of full-time assistant national team coach. Nyirenda joins the Zambia national team from Ferroviario de Beira in Mozambique.
Current coach George Lwandamina has been released to focus on Zesco United’s campaign in the CAF Champions League where they are in contention for a place in the final.
“The change is immediate and we believe that Mr Nyirenda will add immense value to the national team. In view of the fact that Zesco united are engaged in the semi-final of the CAF Champions League with two consecutive matches approaching, the Football Association of Zambia released Mr George Lwandamina to focus on this assignment which is of equal importance to the country. We believe that he can win the Champions league and are in a great position to do so,” said General Secretary Ponga Liwewe

yes yes, he thought he had became very important to the Zambian technical bench, even started insulating match officials, good bye Mr George lwandamamina.
wedson Nyirenda its been long overdue.he could actually done better than chicken.wada akalisukulu alikwata but Zambian players play well when they have a white coach because they fear and respect them.better have wada as assistant
Can’t say I will miss the guy!
Step in the right direction. Zambia finally has a full time coach, but let’s make sure Wadda is given a contract. These handshake agreements should be a thing of the past. Enough coaches have suffered from non-payment of dues like Fred Mwila, the late Ben Bamfuchile, both of whom complained of unpaid work.
Good Luck coach.
Andrew Kamanga is a useless punk, what a fraud. What happened to Gordon Igsund? If the corrupt government won’t help pay the white coach…because that’s what we need and our players work hard for white coach, then Andrew Kamanga needs to man up and look us in the eyes and tell us what is going on, quit f**king with our emotions, one day you tell us Gordon is coach, and then we don’t hear anything about him or his contributions to the squad, WTF? Even wikipedia says he is manager of Zambia, what is he being paid for?

Dude, read the full article. It says Wadda is the assistant and the negotiations are hanging on Government support. There was no way these guys were going to sign a contract and commit GRZ with Ingesud before the election results and government was fully functioning.
This is why FAZ needs to move away from this dependence on Government for funding. Its a process that will take a long time and also FAZ will have to build real trust.
Dude you need to chill out. Obviously FAZ cant swing anything without GRZ and that was not going to happen whilst GRZ themselves were still not yet sorted out after elections. Too early to post such a hypocritical comment. GRZ are only settling in now, inauguration was only hours ago, chill out my man. Lets now see what will happen in the next 2 or so weeks after that if nothing happens you can then tune your brain to that line of thinking, maybe even repost your comment.
“Too early to post such a hypocritical comment” Nigga please! Give me a break. This admin went ahead and “hired” a coach without having any resources secured to pay him, then went ahead to announce to the public that they have hired foreign coach and now you are calling me a hypocrite for stating the obvious? Are you kidding me? Get out of the cave you are living in and wake up. News flash for you, you don’t hire an employee without knowing how you are going to pay them and that was my point in case you missed it, but of course, since you are Mr. Know it all, you would not know that, but instead you decide to attack my observations, intelligence and opinion? That’s just low man. By the way FAZ should not be depending on government as a source of finance to meet their budgets, they need to find ways to raise money. Faz, as most people there in Africa have a stupid mentality and attitude of self entitlement as such they depend on government for literally everything. Government mainly depends on donors and debts from international community and is broke, period. Maybe you and I need to start up a goFundMe account and start to raise some money for our coaching staff? I challenge you to that.
Hmmm ba Tc naimwe. This is a discussion forum. Attacking your opinion is supposed to happen, attacking your character is where we draw the line. Nothing has been said to even remotely solicit the sort of response you are giving i.e. “Mr know it all.” This is a place we can agree to disagree. Big Steve and I are on the same page. FAZ cannpt commit themselves at this time, but I for one do not blame them for doing the ground work of conducting interviews. There is no reason to wait around for that to occur. They have also got a full-time coach on the bench. Usaaaaaa my friend.
Mr. Positive, no the guy just went all out on me and it was uncalled for. I agree we all differ in opinions and I respect that, but calling me a hypocrite? That’s just ridiculous, maybe I went too far, I get it, but indirectly telling me that I should not have an opinion right now by this quote “Lets now see what will happen in the next 2 or so weeks after that if nothing happens you can then “tune” your brain to that line of thinking” is plain out of line. We all deserve to have an opinion whether right or wrong, and of course my opinion is that Andrew Kamanga and crew are being useless by running their mouths that they had gotten us a coach when in actual sense they didn’t have funds to pay him, they campaigned with the motto of being transparency in everything, but somehow they forgot to be transparent in the hiring process to let the public know that there was no money to pay Igsund and now they are grasping to hire anybody out there? I have no problem with Wadda wadda, just the fact that we were told one thing and we seeing another thing. Wait, very soon we will be told they can’t pay Wadda wadda as they seem to be clueless on negotiating with the business community how to raise money, but Edger Lungu to write them a blank check..haha good luck with that.
All the best wada wadda

ZAMBIA GET ready to receive goals.. Zambia 0-3 Nigeria
best regards
Its easy to run our mouths and Zambia will win, but Zambia has no Chance. If we can’t beat Guinea Bissau, then we have no place to be playing against a group full of African powerhouses. Its one thing to be patriotic and actually support your team and country, but its also another thing to be honest and admit that we have no team to beat the caliber of everyone in our group. Our players just don’t match up, coupled with our mediocre coaching stuff, we are in deep trouble.
But again Zambians do give up easily, so don’t count them out just yet. Not saying we are qualifying in this group, we will be able to compete. Good luck to Nigeria, you are going to need it too. Moses has been performing well back at chelsea, that Iheanacho kid is good too.
hey ninjaguy don’t think playing Zambia will be easy just sit back relax and wait for the first whistle names play no football.
For others are saying zambia will be easily be beaten by other teams in the group but for me zambia will pull a suprise in this group.in 2012 people sang about de ba of senego, droba ,jevinho, salomon ,the black star who dose know what happened .yes we could ve not qualified to afcon but this is world cup qualifier.Zambia will stand the ground infact we very capable of qualifying to world cup in this group.the stronger those teams are easier they will fall.we are chipolopolo.Line up Mweene,2 kabaso chongo,3Mbola,4kondwani mutonga,5sunzu,6Sinkala,7lubambo musonda,8 master computer kalaba,9 kalengo,10 chisamba lungu,11 chris sunami katongo.fwayo tembo for lubambo, mbesuma for chisamba, adrian chama for mutonga or sunzu.Others felex, malama ,chamanga, rodrick kabwe, mudenda,GO CHIPOLOPOLO GO
It’s David verses golliat and we all know who won hence the only one who knows is God,who will qualify from the deadliest group I have ever seen in African qualifiers and that same one have also to work hard for it so zed let’s count our selves in who ever thought gb will top our group not even themselves, only God.
Mbesuma scored on debut for his new club. This is a good sign going into the world cup qualifiers, at least he still has his scoring boots on.
Congrats King David!!
Back to the topic, despite him not being the best coach technically and tactically, in comparison Chicken is at par with Wada truth be told. Wada is not going to bring much difference to the quality of play in the national team. I just hope now that GRZ has finally sorted out the election mess someone in the ministry will prioritize getting the issue of the coach sorted out asap. I don want to sound like the blogs wet blanket but I don’t see Gordon taking us to the world cup. Hopefully he can pull out a shocker like HR did in 2012 when we topped a group we were supposed to not win a single game in.
I agree on the tactical level Big Steve. Wadda does not inspire much confidence in me, but I think the added advantage of focus and the fact that he is not attached to a club will allow him to find more talent.
What is worrying though is his lack of experience in working with the national team. George has a wealth of experience, whereas Wadda comes in almost brand new. It will be a steep learning curve for Wedson, but he can rest his laurels on domestic success and with the right help can inspire something to happen.
@TC Soccerman..you are right.. If zambia had a ”real coach”, I wouldn’t have said what I said earlier. But trust me mehn, you guys have no coach. Even this new one doesn’t seem to know what and where he will start from. The moment zambia failed to appoint Gordon igsund or any other reasonable coach , I knew you guys will come last in the group. If our players play exactly like they are doing now in their clubs, hmmm then I pity zambia.
Regards.
@copper bullet… my brother calm down. We ain’t fighting. I just stated the obvious. Come with basket that day cos you may need them to pack goals. 🙂
We Going nowhere with this useless Faz administration led by the biggest failure Kamanga football wise, we are going nowhere. it will be a miracle. Maybe if Kalu becomes sports Minister because even Changwa knows this.
FAZ may not be able to pay the coach but the appointment of igesund as coach shows how useless Kamanga is and the arrogant ponga .The other day ponga was saying we need to build our football so that we can starting winning games . National team players are there atleast would have qualified to AFCON but you allowed chikala chicken to continue even after drawing with guinea bissau at home ,considering the players he used in that game ,he needed not to any near the chipolopolo.we told you Kamanga and ponga have limited connection or non.they are also dull as you can see they use to talk to much now they are in office pwahahahah
@Egwugwu, “FAZ may not be able to pay the coach but the appointment of igesund as coach shows how useless Kamanga is and the arrogant ponga” Exactly my point, but I am being labeled as a hypocrite for observing that.
TC SOCCERMAN. For the first time on this blog I do agree with you. Kamanga won elections on the background of being more connected to the corporate world and would reduce dependence on GRZ for funding.Right now MOSI have cut sponsorship of the Chipolopolo !Life is a negotiation,Kamanga should have used his corporate muscle to negotiate some of these deals. The problem is that he never even had any plan in the first place.Trying to find his way at this crucial moments of the qualifiers is not a good sign for our football and world cup qualification. If you ask me about our chances,it will take a Leicester miracle to qualify,an odd almost impossible to overcome!
Wada is a good appointment but as someone as already alluded to,it will not make any difference. Wada’s football philosophy is a more direct, boring football while Chicken prefers a more Tikataka type of football.

The difference i see between the two is that Wada will cast his net wider, of which George L was so somewhat affixed on the players from his club, whether that works out or not is another question. Second, a new broom sweeps better if that is also debatable i wish to add to the argument that a new broom has less bacteria which doesn’t add critique about the Wada appointment because there is no bacteria worry about, just a shortage in depth in the talent available in our country. But at the back, if biliiiiiiiiiiii can come to the game chewing Bubble-gum and spotting his clean shaven table-cut(in party mood) i think he is stylish and so focused like the late Robert Watyakeni. Together with Chisamba Lungu and those dark skinned young boys who want to take over national team duty – we could nick it.
Best wishes nyelenda we are tied feeding the chicken,Get us out of this misery.Any update on under 20 coach
This guys awee! nowonder they failed ku power!
Wada Wada finally has a chance to showcase what he can do…my advise to him is to také it with both hands
Another step backward 4 the specialist of failures chipolopolo
What is happen in zambian football sure FAZ have failed to hire a good coarch!if faz fail 2 hire coarch b4 nigeria game am sure the super eagles will score atleast 6 goals!
This new FAZ did not have any Agenda whatsoever. all they wanted is to remove Kalu from football house forgetting that he is a CAF member. I will keep on saying Kamanga and Ponga are Clueless and useless period.
Please make me understand something here, are you sayin that people who are CAF members cannot be removed as FA presidents?
Well just as much as i respect the opinion of every one here,i feel Nyirenda is a good appointment. The only lapse in this appointment is that it has rather come a little late.Lwandamina should have been dropped even before we traveled to Guinea Bissau. We still wish Nyirenda all the best.
When is power playing in Lusaka, I want to have a closer look at Billiiiiiii
