Zesco edge Blackpool as Lumwana win to leap out of relegation

Champions Zesco United came from behind to beat bottom placed Mufulira Blackpool in a match played at John Kachofa Stadium.

Blackpool who are winless in 25 games now made a false start when they went a goal up in the 15th minute through Patrick Kongolo and held on to the lead until half time.

However, with the introduction of Jackson Mwanza after the break, the CAF Champions League semi finalists looked more incisive going forward.

Zesco’s leading scorer Jesse Were took his tally for the season to 13 goals when he netted in the 56th minute.

John Chingandu completed the come back in the 75th minute when he unleashed a thunderbolt which beat the Blackpool goalkeeper.

The win takes Zesco United to 43 points, 15 points behind leaders Zanaco with 5 games in hand.

Elsewhere, a splendid away performance by Lumwana Radiants saw them beat Lusaka Tigers 2 – 0 to jump out of the relegation zone into 13th position.

Eddie Sinyangwe and Hosea Silwimba were on target for Lumwana.

In the early kickoff of the day, Nkwazi and Forest Rangers played out to a goalless draw.

  1. Lusaka Tigers played like they were playing under protest of some kind ; or did they eat lunch late and were still heavy on the field of play ,those
were both avoidable goals to say day the least . On the other end, there was very poor creatvitity in attacking midfield to feed Jeff who could deliver given two or so opportunities .

meantime Congratulations to Konola Bladess and Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy (the truth be tol KYSA will really need to prepare well for the next Barclays Cup fixture against kalampa especially their midfield role).

All the best to Division One representatives.
