Chiolombo: I am still U20 coach!

Zambia U20 national team coach Hector Chilombo has disputed reports that he has quit his position as U20 national team.

Chilombo stated that he had no intentions of quitting his job despite presiding over the worst display by an U20 team at the Africa Youth Championship which saw the Zambian team eliminated after losing all the three group stage games.

“I am still head coach of the under-20 and I have no intentions of quitting. Yes, our performance in Senegal was not up to expectations, but that doesn’t mean I have to give up. I am still the coach. If I am to resign, I know the procedures to follow. I was employed by FAZ and neither me nor my employers have any information that I am resigning,” the Napsa Stars coach said.

He apologised for the team’s failure to rise to the occasion in Senegal.

“Zambians deserve the best but we failed to meet their expectations. On behalf of the entire team, we sincerely apologise for disappointing the nation and we only hope our apology will be accepted. The nation expected so much from us and they had confidence and so did we, but things didn’t work out as expected,” Chilombo said.

  1. What criteria in Zambia is used when hiring these hopeless Zambians as coaches! Poverty is a big problem. This failure can’t quit, not because he has something to offer to the soccer fraternity but because he has to eat, failure or success it doent matter!

  2. Ba zamfoot then where do you source yo stories? I ask coz last tym u reported on chilombo, you even quoted his words. Or is it that he has made a U-turn after realising the harsh economic crunch(poverty knocking on the door)? If so then FAz shud just honourably fire this clueless coach. Let us not tolerate failures with our national pride!

  3. Having watched all the u20 games it is with sadness that the effort was there from our lads but cohesion, ball control and tactics were average.I think the coaching bench was exposed they have a lot to learn or they just don’t have it.A not so talented team can do wonders if basics are done right and if good game management is implemented talent alone can not bring success but meticulous planing.Ba chilombo,ba janza and i dont know about ba kaunda cause i never watched the u17,s you should grab the opportunity given to you with both hands.
tough baba i think you failed the nation.

  4. I am not supporting this man staying, but I am still of the thought that our coaches are being asked to perform miracles i.e. perform well without adequate preparation. Anyone in any leadership or management capacity knows that you can’t set high expectations if you don’t give people the right tools to perform.

  5. Same kalusha crap! Stpped watchn Zambian football it’s no wonder stadiums are half empty even whn Zambia plays crucial world cup qualifiers!

  6. I hate to say it but I was right in thinking he hadn’t resigned. This is how we Zambians are. We dont quit until we are hounded out or people begin to protest.
