Chambeshi talks players character, The Bazo effect, and plans for next season

Nkana head coach Beston ‘quick silver’ Chambeshi was quick to praise his ‘fantastic’ players following the teams’ survival after battling relegation for the majority of the 2020/2021 season.

Chambeshi was speaking after the goalless draw away at Woodlands Stadium against NAPSA Stars.

“These are the results we were looking for, the character of the boys, shows that we are ready for next season,” he said.

“We managed to come out from where we were, because of the teamwork and spirit, and I think overall the boys were fantastic.”

Chambeshi also praised Alex ‘Bazo’ Ng’onga specifically who has made great contributions, upon joining the team from Power Dynamos FC.

Ng’onga has netted eight goals for the 13 time Super League Champions in 13 appearances helping the team survive relegation.

“Alex has added value to the team, he is a good boy and a national team Material, we needed someone who can find the goals and he has shown that he is capable of doing that,” he said.

Looking forward to next season quick Silver wants to prepare adequately, as he believes preparations are very important if the team is to perform well. He said the team’s poor performance this season was mainly because of a lack of preparation.

2017 U-20 AFCON winning coach says he has seen where the team is lacking and hence wants to fuse in a few players for next season.

“The preparations were not that good and we have to improve on that, we need to prepare and start well, and finding ourselves in this situation was because of the preparation,” he said.

“We have to build the team now. we have to sit with the management and see how we can come up with the recruitment issue.”

“I will try by all means to look for Zambian players because I believe and trust, I will always build a team from youth programs.”

“Nkana for sure is a big team, I will get two or three senior players but for sure Iwilll target the young ones,” he continued

Nkana survived a possible relegation after an impressive last 13 games that saw them win six and draw three to pick up 21 points from a possible 36.

Nkana finished 13th with 45 points, while demoted Napsa stars finished on 16th position behind Young Green Eagles with 37points but above Lumwana Radiants and Kitwe United.

  1. A team was a relegation candidate untill you recruited Ng’onga who went on to score 8 goals in last 13 games and helped by a board room decision to survive relegation. You turn round and say cos the team were fantastic. What a poor assessment by a poor coach..give credit where it is due!
