MTN Super League side Red Arrows have appointed former Chipolopolo striker James Chamanga as the strikers coach.
Chamanga retired from football at the end of the 2024/2025 MTN Super League season after a successful career spanning around 25 years.
Chamanga will bring a lot of experience to the Chisi Mbewe technical bench.
Chamanga returned back to Zambia in 2019 after a 14-year stint outside the country, where he played for Bush Bucks, Supersport United, Moroka Swallows, Dalian Shide, and Liaoning.
When he initially returned to Zambia at 39, questions lingered about his age and whether Red Arrows had made the right decision.
However, those doubts were resoundingly answered. Not only did he play for six years, but he also won two league titles, two Charity Shields, and an ABSA Cup title.
Additionally, he claimed the MTN Super League golden boot with 16 goals in the 2019/2020 season at the age of 40.
When he played in the South African PSL, he won the golden boot in the 2007/2008 season when he scored 14 goals. That same year he moved to China where he played for 10 years until 2018.
He is a veteran of four Africa Cup of Nations Tournaments and boasts of having scored a goal at each of the finals he played in. He played at the 2006, 2008, 2010 and won gold at the 2012 tournament.
