Zambia will breathe a sigh of relief after day one in group B ended with all teams level on one point with the same number of goals.
After Chipolopolo were held to a 1 – 1 draw by Congo DR, Tunisia and Cape Verde also played out to a 1 – 1 draw in the late kick-off.
In a game of two halves, Cape Verde looked very strong in the first half and could have gone ahead in the first few minutes when a headed ball came off the upright.
Tunisia came back strong in the second half stronger and went ahead in the 70th minute through Moncer.
However, Cape Verde equalised 8 minutes later through Heldon from the spot for the game to end in a draw.
Zambia play Tunisia on Thursday 22nd January in Ebibeyin.

let the games continue,,, we will beat Tunisia,,,, clean game!!
why blame janza nt mbola he lost the ball gifted drc a goal I recoded the game mbola is to blame
proudly chiwezi bro that goal from Congo was long awaited,we kept subduing the pressure through out the game. Congo outplayed us in the midfield. The most likely thing to happen if you are constantly been under pressure is conceding a goal and that did happen. Its true mbola made a mistake but he also made some critical tackles which could have resulted in us having an embarrassed scoreline.
Having said that Janza had somehow an option of preventing that long in the game. He could have opted to bring in another defender (Muntali) and push Kondwani in the holding midfield role to assist Sinkala and easy some pressure on the backline.
Why Zamfoot deleted my comment? Honestly Chris Katongo is not patriotic to his country. Tunisia is beatable DRC played better than Tunisia they were too physical on the ball. He can’t analyze. Yes we had a difficult game and DRC Ba kasai where all over us, we where under surge. But he should speak hope and motivate young stars.
Katongo is bitter towards the coach Janza. You can tell from his tone that he is against Janza and the team.
Some of you guys talk too much a draw with Congo Dr is a good result. Who told you beating Congo is easy. Ghana failed to beat Congo last time at the 2013 afcon. Congo was the first country to win the chan. Zambia has done very well because cape Verde and Tunisia are weaker than Congo. For those still praising pathetic Renard ask him about he was beaten by Congo in Abijan. Zambia and Congo are qualifying here.
Blind people can not see that Janza is lacking a system of play,he is good but not for the national team
Naked goal Ghana themselves failed to beat drc in 2013. Just thank god for the draw
This drc team on paper is even better than Ghana and Cameroon. Go and compare the squads each team has taken to afcon you will see drc has a strong team with top players from Europe and locally based players from giants mazembe and as vita. This is a very tough team far much better than Tunisia. You love to complain so much sometimes it becomes annoying. A draw with Congo Dr is fair
@ john, i agree with you but Chipolopolo do not look at where other players play. Ivory coast,Senegal,Ghana had players from europe in 2012 but we beat them. Even though DRC have players who play in Europe, we would have beaten them if we had a system which Janza is lacking.
2012 – our only achievement has marred our thought processes. that’s why most Africans call it a FLUKE
Janza the stage z too big for him try Cosafa under 20 this coach coudnt read the gaMe ther z no point in celebrating a draw wen u could hv won.How Many tiMes did we cry to solidfy midfield wit isaac chansa SateSate barely kicked the ball wait for Tunisia u will Miss Renard
2012 – our only achievement has marred our thought processes. that’s why most Africans call it a FLUKE
With Janza’s kamikazee formation of playing with 3 forwards, let us forget about progressing. Janza substituted our best forward, Mayuka, and left on Sate sate who was busy sleeping. Sate sate couldn’t cope with the power of the Congolese that he substituted himself. He claimed he had an injury when he just couldn’t handle the physique of the Kasai.
@ Germiston South, Chris was just telling it the way it was supposed to be, why do yo people hate the truth? I mean was it necessary for the coach to play Mayuka, Sate Sate and Singuluma at the same time? He also emphasized on Kalaba and Lungu to have stepped up their game coz they were our most dependable players, what was wrong with that? He might have maybe made one or two unpleasant comments but overall, his analysis was spot on.
Zambia need a new system. That 4 1 3 2 formation did not work. Sinkala was overwhelmed, something I have been preaching for a while. You can’t win a game with one true midfielder.
who werè u calling fool in the other blog?. mind wat u boy. wen i jump on you i wont stop
John, we all agree it was a good result. The thing is they are weaknesses that we all saw in our team. We were overwhelmed in midfield and it’s something the coach needs to work on. We also need to stop getting in that porous defensive shell where we are begging for pressure. We need to improve against the boring more tactical Tunisia and the diving Cape Verde boys.
Chisamba lungu z also a problem, too much driblin and he fails to create chances nextgame he shud start on bench. Wishin the guys the best of luck in the next game
@Duncandinho, my point was Chris Katongo. Should not say Zambia will not beat or find it difficult to beat Tunisia. Each game is tabled the way it is. That is a reason why Cynthia leading the panel from SuperSport said, ‘ Chris put some hope to your team’ confidence. But he should not sale his team by over respecting Tunisia, On the coach tactics yes he can say but DRC came very strong on our boys and not even teams like Ghana or Cameron was going to survive. A draw is very good for all the teams. What did Chris do in 2013 Afcon?
Ba Chris Katongo is bitter towards the coach Janza and the team, for being left out of the squad. I heard him very well last night on SS4. He seems not to be giving the team some hope.
@Psitive Thinking, Zambia needs a 4 2 3 1 formation. Janza needs to push Kondwani in midfield to assist Sinkala. He should bring Munthali to partner Sunzu in central defence.
The squad should be
Mweene
Nkausu Sunzu Munthali Mbola
Sinkala Kondwani
Chisamba/Lubambo Singuluma Kalaba
Mayuka/Kangwa
Mweene
Nkausu___Sunzu___Munthali___Mbola
Sinkala___Kondwani
Chisamba/Lubambo___Singuluma___Kalaba
Mayuka/Kangwa
Agree with your formation whole heartedly. Chisamba Lungu played better coming off the bench in my opinion. Though I wouldn’t trust Lubambo to start because he has no motivation to defend.
In the next game Lubambo Musonda and Evans Kangwa should start ahead of Chisamba and Mayuka respectively. Mayuka should be brought in in the second half as an impact player. In my view Evans Kangwa is better than Sate Sate. Sate Sate should not start ahead of Kangwa. Chisamba makes too many mistakes in the midfield and loses possession so easily. We have been expecting a lot from Chisamba but has not lived up to our expectations. Lubambo should start ahead of him, and only come in when the youngster shows signs of weariness.
We need pace/speed in the team and this is the only way we are going to beat the North Africans.
Just concerned about the fitness levels coz under renar atleast fitness was there and players cud run like men.not this cat walks we are busy seeing.this is afcon ka,not cosafa!
We shouldn’t play those useless long balls we played against DRC..We deliberately put ourselves under pressure. 90% of the passes were misplaced..shocked that the coach could not tell the boys to put the ball down… Evans Kangwa should start is the next game..
So you guys expected Chris to praise the coach when clearly the coach got it all wrong? I think that’s the problem with us, when someone is being realistic and speak their mind, we label them as unpatriotic and bitter.
Zambians please take it easy on your team.u see the moment u win the afcon cup u are treated differently.any team playing Zambia now will approach the game differently and if Zambia continues to beat them then u are regarded as a true power house.
ask the likes of cameroun Ghana and every nation that has won the cup before.
