Can Andy Boyeli get to 20 goals ?

The race for the Golden boot seems to be a foregone conclusion at this point ahead of the final week of the 2022/2023 MTN Super League.

Power Dynamos’ striker Andy Boyeli has scored 17 goals so far this season with the person closest to him,  FC MUZA’s Andrew Phiri, a good four goals behind.

The Zambia U-23 National Team striker will need to score four goals to match Boyeli and five goals to win it outright; that’s assuming that the Congolese forward does not breach the Red Arrows backline.

Forest Rangers Wisdom Libamba Moyela is on 12 goals and needs at least five goals to be in the conversation.

Behind Libamba are three players with eleven goals each in ZESCO United’s Collins Sikombe, Green Eagles’ Amity Shamende and a guy who can’t add to his tally, Kennedy Musonda who left Power Dynamos midway through the season to join Tanzanian giants Young Africans (YANGA)

Back to Boyeli, the only thing left now is to see if he can get to 20 goals for the season like Idris Mbombo in 2018 and Chris Mugalu in 2017.

Former Nkana striker Walter Bwalya scored 24 Goals back in 2016.

20 goals seems to be the mark for prolific strikers in the MTN Super League in the recent past and Boyeli will be keen to reach that tally.

However back in the day, 30 plus was the target, Power Dynamos legend Peter Kaumba netted 30 league goals in 1982 while the legendary Godfrey Ucar Chitalu scored 49 league goals in 1972.

Away from the top Justin Shonga has set a new personal record this season in terms of goal involvement, He has been involved in 17 of the 29 goals scored by Nkwazi this

Season.

Shong has managed to score 10 goals in 20 games with 7 assists also to his name.

The former Orlando Pirates has averaged a goal every two games.

  1. Where is Lazarus Kambole?
On another note and repeating what I said before..it’s time to raised the bar and say minimum goals to qualify for golden boot is 20.
The last ten years stats probably reflect how poor our strikers have been.
