Brian Mwila treks to North Africa

Zambian striker Brian Mwila has joined Sportive Sétifienne popularly known as ES Sétif.

Mwila was on the books of Austrian Bundesliga side Rheindorf Altach. In Austria, Mwila played only 20 games and scored eight goals.

The former Green Buffaloes forward struggled to settle in Austria and when he finally found his form he suffered a long term knee injury and only started training late last year.

Mwila signed for the Austrian on a three-year deal in August 2018. He scored his first goal for the club on 7 October 2018, netting twice in a 2–0 league win over Austria Wien.

Mwila came into the limelight in 2017 when he earned his first national team call-up after his goal-scoring spree at Green Buffaloes and made his debut for the Copper Bullets against Gabon on 4 June 2017 and scored his first goal in a friendly match against South Africa nine days later.

Mwila has managed to score 8 goals in 11 matches for the national team.

  1. I wish Brian Mwila well though North Africa has not been a good hunting ground for Zambian players. 80% of the boys come back disappointed and ask for their contracts to be terminated.

    • My thoughts as well Sibs. I’m not sure if it is style of play or the huge culture change but our players don’t seem to thrive in North Africa anymore like the days of Malitoli. It just doesn’t seem like a good destination for our lads anymore. Anyway I hope he is the one to change fortunes and be a massive success. All the best to him.

Brain is trekking to N Africa with a full knowledge that it’s not an appropriate destination for Zed players . However his agents have wrongly advised him as their eye in on money .
Brain could have stayed in Europe as he gains form .playing in a lesser club for him couldn’t have been a bad idea as he gains form . In Zambia we need to export more younger players to Europe so that we regain our strength as Chipolopolo.

  3. It is a pity for the young man, think he is the first Zambian to play in Algeria. He might may it. Let us wait and see. I personally feel he has the potential
