Blog: Has FAZ Discarded the Green Jersey?

The Chipolopolo Boys will be in a white jersey in Tuesday’s Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier against Tuesday.

On Matchday 1 and 3 against Mauritania and Equatorial Guinea, the Chipolopolo Boys also used the white jersey.

While some will argue that it’s just a jersey or colour, many critics feel the green jersey should be Zambia’s second choice and not the the white.

The legendary KK11 in white

Zambia being in a white jersey is not a new thing. Remember the famous Reebok branded jersey Kalusha Bwalya scored a hat-trick in against Burkina Faso in 1996.

Actually even the KK11 used to be clad in white . But after the triumph in 2012 in Libreville, the green jersey has become symbolic.

Actually, going into the African Cup of Nations final match against Ivory Coast in 2012, Zambia was the designated home team and therefore had the right to wear the copper jersey.

But there was a colour clash as Ivory Coast home jersey is also orange almost similar to Zambia’s famed Copper jersey.

On the eve of the final during a pre-match, Ivory Coast made a request if they could be in Orange but the Zambian delegation at the meeting refused.

“We didn’t mind using the green jersey in the final but had we accepted right away it could have been seen as if we had bowed down to pressure,” one member of the Zambian delegation once told the ZamFoot Crew.

“The Ivorians came with this West African superiority complex. We also thought this were mind games. “After an hour of arguing as we stood our ground I made a phone call to the President (Kalusha Bwalya) and (Herve) Renard),” the ZamFoot Crew source said.

“After a chat with the match commissioner, we agreed to switch to green. We never told the boys about this as Chris (Katongo) was aware.

The rest is history as Zambia lifted AFCON trophy in a green jersey.

Yes, white is our third kit and it can used occasionally but not for three successive away matches.

We found our identity with Copper and green jersey. There’s no need to take us back to the L-Sporto days.

    off topic

Tunisia are not a 3-0 nil walk-over team. The door was shut until Eq G pulled off a surprise- something we should have done in Ndola.

We had the opportunities but blew it.
But this is football, the unexpected always happens…!!!
Fashion Sakala’s absence hurt Zambia badly ( no fault of his own).

Fashion, is the Bullet that has the spark…. that lifts the entire team…. frightens the opposition and forces them into errors.

The Tunisians ,etc, etc would all have seen what has been happening in the UK in the last 5-6 weeks and are sure to be now absolutely panicking!

Everyone must be thinking… “ What’s happening ?….Does Zed now have three Kalushya Bwalyas….at the same time…????”

It’s time to “Tune” the Tunisians…
    Good luck gentlemen!!!
