Algeria were the better side – Chiyangi

The Zambia National Soccer team opened their 2021 AFCON Qualification campaign with a 5-0 defeat at the hands of the reigning African Champions, Algeria on Thursday Evening.

Head Coach Aggrey Chiyangi says the defeat has given the team a lot of lessons going forward and described Algeria as the ” better’ Side on the pitch.

“We know that we have a lot of work to do so what is important is to learn from the mistakes that we have made in this game, so those are things that should be done with our team, lessons have been Learnt and will work on them,” he said.

“We told our players to push harder and to see if we equalize, you saw in the 10-15 minutes we did try to push them in their own half and the second goal that we Conceded disturbed us a lot but if we were organized to avoid the second goal it was going to be different.”

Chiyangi further added that Conceding the first two goals had a huge impact on the outcome of the match.

“Yes we have lost but before the game, you can’t say that we are going to Lose but every team is focused to win the game so yes we played a better side we accept it and only those who know football can understand,” he said.

“What changed the game was the goals, we made a mistake instead of attacking the first goal but we didn’t again we conceded a penalty and that gave the opponent energy to keep going on so that is where everything broke down,” he added.

Chipolopolo will on Tuesday the 19th of November 2019 host their old-time rivals Zimbabwe at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka as the 2021 AFCON qualifiers Continue.

  1. Yes ba coach, Algeria were the better side. Infact it appears all your opponents are better sides. You could as well to disband and go and rest for good

  2. Those who know football will understand. No we do not understand your tactics, we do not understand your football philosophy, we do not understand why it takes FAZ a lifetime to put out an advert for a coach, we simply do not understand what’s wrong with the Zambian coaches. What we understand is that we are fed up with FAZ as well as inept coaches.

  3. Those are not comforting words from a coach in Zambia earning taxing monies to coach a football. There are people who deal with life and death situations. You are a coach/ manager of a football team.
Do you read? DO you study? What is you coaching Philosophy? Go and earn more credentials brother. In your big exam you got an effective F=Fail Grade. Go repeat your your courses!

  4. You are spot on. We have had Zambians coaching the National Team never a result like this; being grilled 5-0 by an African team. We had ba late Zoom, late Mungwa and Col. Banda (not late) coaching the National team, we were never beaten by an African team the way we were beaten by Algeria. We were in the game but we gave them too much space in the second half. Goalkeeper Nsabata is not a regular at ZANACO and you nake him first choice. You paid the price. In the 2 friendly games we played before facing Algeria you used other goalkeepers. Why did you change??? Tell me??? Chiyangi you better off coaching Green Eagles or what ever you call the team.

Zambian players are useless too. All those mistakes takwaba. This is a disgrace. Hope now people understand why we will never progress

Bring back HR, he is available

  5. I think we will still qualify for AFCON 2021 but certain conditions have to be met before that becomes a reality. 1. This experiment with local coaches needs to come to an end because it has clearly failed. We either have to send our coaches for specialized training for at least a year in Europe or South America and in the interim, accept to continue to be mediocre as a team. That will mean in having the character to look at long term gain versus short term gain. 2. $10,000/month is going to get us nothing but a joke of a coach. Kamanga touted his business credentials during campaigns, well now is the time to show us that you can marshal resources to pay a decent salary to a world class coach and not some no name guy looking too build a CV. 3. Katongo said it best, we need a healthy blend of youth and experience. Team selection remains a head scratcher, a good number of the AFCON 2012 team are still playing and we can bring some of these guys in for both experience and leadership. As and example, Ashios Melu played deep into his 30s and provided leadership that was a stabilizing force for the team. Our teams panic when the concede, resort to arguing with refs and basically lack discipline. Everyone wants a to score a spectacular goal and does not want to play the simple ball. 4. We need to stop putting too much stock in COSAFA tournaments. We have become to consumed with winning these useless tournaments to the point that our preparations for bigger tournaments suffer. COSAFA is a very low bar and we seriously need to up the ate a bit. Lastly..’m not sure what our tactics or brand of football are anymore. We have no identity as a team and one has to hold their breath every time the team plays because we have no clue what to expect. It’s depressing to watch these teams these days

  6. You think well I dont think so. Better we stay home and forget about AFCON. Let us give free points for our remaining games. We are a disgrace to say the least. We are not going anywhere. When you select players that are subs in their respective clubs what do you expect. Shonga and Mulenga are not regulars at their respective clubs. Nathan Sinkala is not a regular either. Nsabata is not a regular at his club. Salulani Phiri is not a regular being subed in every game. That Tandi Mwape is not a regular at TP Mazembe. You put Mwape Musonda on the bench a regular at his club. The guy goalkeeper from SA is a regular ka Chiyangi sends him mu ma stands. Such a stupid coach. Wedson did win both away and at home vs the same team. Ka chiyangi you do the oppsite ka chikalar atase

  7. Coach Chiyangi ! Which mistakes that we did not learn past years. Coach! Zambia is not in the learning phase of how football is played. We are a world class team, a big team that requires a big coach. African teams that have local coaches played at the highest level. One, two goals is well understood in a way, not five goals. Were some of our players and coach up to that level to compete ?
