The 2022 ABSA Cup quarter final matches set for this weekend at Arthur Davies Stadium will go ahead as planned.
According to a circular by Zambian Premier League manager, Brian Mulenga which was availed to the ZamFoot Crew, The teams will observe a minute of silence and wear black armbands in honor of the late fourth Republican President his excellency Rupiah Bwezani Banda.
“Please refer to the subject above. The ABSA Cup 2022 Quarter Finals will go ahead as planned.
However, teams are expected to observe a minute of silence and wear a black armband as gesture of respect. We expect all clubs to act with the utmost decorum and reduce celebrations to an absolute minimum.
Teams will ensure that we respect the memory of our Past patron and vice President Mr Rupiah Bwezani Banda 4th President of the Republic of Zambia.”
Banda, 85, died at home on Friday after a short battle with colon cancer, his family and the presidency said.
Banda, Zambia’s fourth president who was in power from 2008 to 2011, was diagnosed with cancer two years ago and had been receiving medical treatment.
2018 Champions, Nkana will open the quarter-final stage with an early kick-off against Lumwana Radiants on Saturday while six-time Champions, ZESCO United face Green Eagles in the second game of the day.
On Sunday, Green Buffaloes and NAPSA Stars square off in an early kick off with Red Arrows and Nkwazi closing the quarter final stage.
