It’s been six months and 21 days since Zanaco announced the signing of Nigerian forward Austine Chingozie Iheanacho.
The time that has passed since that announcement and today is basically 55.62% of a common year (365 days) and yet he has not even made the match day squad once.
This is because the striker was signed while carrying a serious knee injury and apparently in Zanaco’s wisdom, they did not do a medical before handing him a contract.
Whether it was by design or just an oversight on their behalf, the ‘mistake’ is a costly one as they are stuck with a player they can’t use and can’t get rid of him.
The Nigerian penned a one year deal with the Bankers in September last year.
Iheanacho’s arrival was announced just a few days after the arrival of Super Eagles Legend Emmanuel Amunike as a consultant for the technical bench who has since been shown the door.
Former Chipolopolo head coach Wedson Nyirenda is the new boss at Sunset Stadium taking over from Kaindu and Amunike.
The ZamFoot Crew understands that the acquisition of Iheanacho was done in a haste which raises more questions as to why the club was in such a hurry.
Earlier a source at Sunset Stadium told the ZamFoot Crew that the top brass was not happy with the way the deal was done and we’re requesting answers.
“The people from the mother company (Zanaco Bank) are not happy with how the transfer was handled,” a source at sunset stadium told the ZamFoot Crew in February.
“They have questioned how the player found himself at the club while carrying an injury. Remember there was also Jacques Bitumba Bakulu who joined the club back in 2021 from Moroccan second tier Olympique Club de Khouribga on a 2-year deal but was only seen on the bench once against Prison Leopards,” the source added.
According to the Zanaco website Iheanacho has previously played for Ahli Khartoum SC of Sudan, Ayl Arab, Shebab Nasri,Ahli Merowe and Hilal Fasher.
Zanaco are currently with 34 points after 28 games and just three points above the relegation Zone.
