Ziyo named Chipolopolo Vice Captain

Zambia Coach Wedson Nyirenda has named Zanaco defender Ziyo Tembo as the new Chipolopolo Boys Vice Captain.

The current Zambian Player of the Year has been a bedrock of the Chipolopolo defence alongside Stopilla Sunzu in the last 12 months.

Ziyo will now deputies the legendary Kennedy Mweene.

There has been a number of changes in the Chipolopolo set up post AFCON 2012.

When Honour Janza took over he dropped the Captain Fantastic Chris Katongo and handed the armband to Sunzu with Nathan Sinkala as his vice captain.

Sunzu and Sinkala were perceived as too junior for the role and the defender relinquished the armband.

Janza then passed it over to Rainford Kalaba while Sinkala was maintained as the deputy.

George Lwandamina maintained Kalaba as his skipper when he replaced Janza. Nyirenda continued the trend and kept the faith in his former Zesco United player.

But when Kalaba felt that he was untouchable, Wada Wada showed him the exit door and Zambia had no skipper.

From the peripheral, Mweene is captain material but those close to inside Chipolopolo camp claim other wise.

Finally, Mweene got the armband he has been craving for but there was an issue of his deputy.
With Sunzu not obsessed with then Kondwani Mtonga and Chisamba Lungu become contenders for the role.

Despite having handed Chisamba his Zanaco debut, Nyirenda was ready to show the Turkish based midfielder the exit just like he has done Kalaba, Fwayo and Clatus Chama but there has been a change of heart from Nyirenda after the 25 year old showed team spirit.

With that, Nyirenda opted to go for a player who mirrors his image.

In Ziyo, he sees a hard-working humble defender.
