POwer Dynamos talisman Alex Ng’onga has was one of the key players missing on coach Wedson Nyirenda’s final 23 man squad to face Nigeria.
Ng’onga’s was facing stiff competition from European based duo Patson Daka and Fashion Sakala as well as Brian Mwila and Justin Shonga from Platinum Stars and Orlando Pirates respectively.
Ng’onga came off the bench to replace Shonga in the second half against Algeria but failed to convert from close range to wrap up the game for Zambia.
Though he is yet to find the back of net for Zambia, the burly striker has hit an incredible 6 goals in 8 appearances for Power Dynamos.
Zambia plays Nigeria on October 7 in Uyo with the team leaving for Ghana on Sunday where they will set up base.
Nigeria leads Group B on 10 points while Zambia is second on seven points with Cameroun in a distant third on three points while Algeria lies rock bottom on a point.

I believe he has scored for Zambia before, when we won the COSAFA Cup under Herve Renard…
I believe he has scored for Zambia before – when we won the COSAFA Cup under Herve Renard in 2013…
Exactly…Alex, work hard and don’t give up…this is just a little bump in the way to fulfillment!! Aba Yellow for life…
This is the guy who missed a clear cut chance against Algeria, when it was clearly easy to score than to miss. WE DON’T NEED HIM!
Alex has the traits of a good striker; getting in the right position at the right time. The coach, like Jose Mourinho, should have got in his head;pre match, and told him to calm down and not be over awed by the moment of the occasion.
