The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) had clarified the payment made to former Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant following widespread social media reports, which they have labelled as ‘mis-information’.
According to a statement by FAZ Head of Media and Communications, Nkweto Tembwe, and availed to the ZamFoot Crew, the money paid to the Israeli gaffer was monies owed to him and not a separation package.
Social media reports claim the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) paid Grant US$277,222.99 (K6,387,516) as part of a contract termination arrangement.
“The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) wishes to correct misinformation suggesting that former Chipolopolo Coach Avram Grant was paid to end his contract,”- Reads part of the statement.
FAZ General Secretary Machacha Shepande told FAZ Media that the separation between FAZ and Grant was entirely mutual and did not involve any severance payment.
He has since clarified that the figure mentioned did not represent a separation package. Instead, it reflected part of the outstanding amount owed to the Israeli coach at the time both parties agreed to separate.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the figures cited in the financial report during yesterday’s reconvened AGM refer solely to monies owed to the coach, not a separation package. In fact, most of the outstanding amount accumulated long before the Keith Mweemba administration took over,” said Shepande.
FAZ parted ways with Israeli gaffer Avam Grant in October after nearly three years at the helm of the Copper Bullets.

Grant did this nation a favour and we shall soon realise that we should have let him take the boys to AFCON in Morroco he deserved that chance to rewrite the script but in the rushed name of patriotism we brought in experiments…
