MTN Super League side ZESCO United are looking to engage an expatriate coach ahead of the transitional season, the ZamFoot Crew has learned.
Zega Mambo had initially wanted a George ‘Chicken’ Lwandamina reunion but Nchanga Rangers acted swiftly to hand him a two year contract extension with improved terms.
The nine time Champions then turned to Kabwe Warriors George Chilufya after their pursuit of Lwandamina hit a wall despite an initial verbal agreement for the former Mufulira Wanderers defender to make a sensational return to Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
Chilufya and ZESCO United were very close to sealing a deal that would have seen him take over the managerial role at ZESCO United but it seemed the ZESCO United hierarchy were divided on the matter.
Another contentious issue was the length of the contract with ZESCO United only willing to offer Chilufya a short term deal for the transitional season.
They have now since moved their advances to an expatriate coach who is set to be appointed in the coming weeks. They are also interested in a top MTN Super coach.
ZESCO United are looking for a fresh start after a disappointing 2025/2026 campaign that saw them miss out on the ABSA Cup and finish in the bottom half of the table.
