Zesco United opened a seven point lead at the summit of the FAZ Super League with a resounding 5 – 3 bashing of Nkana in a game played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Saturday.
Nkana made a false start and were in front as early as the 7th minute via a Simon Bwalya diving header but Zesco replied through Mwape Mwelwa in the 16th minute.
Nkana were determined to end their non-winning run against Zesco and they again took the lead through Fred Tshimenga before Zesco replied again through Winstone Kalengo in the 33rd minute with man of the match Clatous Chama adding another three minutes later for Zesco to take the lead for the first time in the match.
Justine Zulu added a fourth for Zesco at the stroke of half time.
Nkana’s new signing Walter Bwalya reduced the deficit for Nkana as he made it 4 – 3 but Zesco restored their cushion in the 60th minute through Jackson Mwanza for the game to end 5 – 3 as the champions maintained their unbeaten record against Nkana which runs since 2004.
At Sunset Stadium, Zanaco had to come from behind to force a 1 – 1 draw against Green Buffaloes in a pulsating local derby.
The game started over 30 minutes late after the home side failed to provide security in time but once the game was underway, it was Green Buffaloes looking like the more likely to break the deadlock with Sebastian Mwansa pulling the strings in midfield.
Left back Stephen Kabamba put the visitors ahead with a brilliant strike from 25 yards which curled round Toaster Nsbata who did not it even move as the ball found its way in the net.
However, Zanaco leveled three minutes later thanks to the brilliance of Moses Phiri who made an assist for Henry Banda.
Elsewhere, Napsa Stars rise from the relegation zone continued with a 1 – 0 away win over Forest Rangers while Nkwazi Maintained their handsome fourth position with an emphatic 4 – 1 win over Konkola Blades who are now just goals outside the relegation zone.
Adamson Mulawo shot to the top of the top scorers chart with a goal which condemned Mufulira Wanderers to a 2 – 1 loss in Choma. Mwila Phiri scored the other goal for Eagles.
Mulawo has now scored 9 goals in the league.

lol
5-3, maybe if it were 5-1 or 5-0/4-0. Zesco scored 5 but allowed in 3, not so good for a Club that is aiming to top the League and representing Zed in the Champions League
Just my opinion
Simon Bwalya of Nkana has really raised his game combining well with Walter Bwalya whose game is a marvel to watch. Meanwhile coach Lwandamina continues to dominate local soccer. He’s a legend!
We need to lessen on these small framed players as it forces us lose possession easily and start playing aimless long balls as has become the customs. Until such a time we get extremely talented small framed players that are extremely rare these days, let’s fill how team with guys like Walter Bwalya with a mix of skill and power (rigor mortis!!!!!).
Bruce Musakanya my one time favourite has reached the Law of Diminising returns and needs to be spared to recover his former unstoppable self not the current slow motioned player he’s become. Just imagine him facing tough nuts David Odhiambo (best defender in the ZPL currently), Mariga and Wanyama of Kenya on 6th September!
Coca cola cup final, Chizongwe technical (chizzy metal) 4-1 Chongwe. Proud of my former school Chizzy metal.
What lesson?I thought Zesco just survived by the skin of their teeth!Good game by both sides but Zesco should work extra hard if they are to win the league.Nkana has finally exposed Zesco’s achilles heel.
Jacob Banda was not stable in goal, Nkana on the other hand have a problem with their defenders.
they didnt teach us a lesson. it was fifty fifty we scored 3.
Match reports please. Results on their own don’t bring out a true picture of what transpired. Zamfoot you really need to work on this. You’ve been around for a while now to be able to have some people at various stadia.
@ naked goal, ONCE A METAL, ALWAYS A METAL. My former sku Chizz Metal doing it in style.
Change the caption ba Zamfoot, ati zesco teach Nkana a lesson and a bashing is supposed to be 5-1 ,4-1 etc.
I think there was a lesson or two taught and learnt in that encounter. When you take a lead protect it jealously is one. The other could be never give up when your opponent is leading. Nkana failed in both situations mentioned…Mr editor the piece of writing would make more sense if only you could incline the article a little more to the lessons taught.
I watched the matched, it was quite entertaining. ALthough the defences of both teams were not stable. But good football was displayed.
And that’s very good for the fans to be entertained. Worrisome for defenders but good job to the strike forces of both teams.
Interesting thing to note on the Table. Teams from 4th to 6th position are service teams namely: Nkwazi, Gbfc and Red Arrows.
How old is Adamson Mulawo and why is He not being considered for the National Team, I need to know as I am not in Zambia to watch these players….
Well done Zesco. This sounds like the sort of game you can lose your voice.
Power Dynamos 2 Nakambala 0
Great Kalu is yet to decide about Mulawo! If he says no its no! No matter
how good one is. Kalusha is playing ‘GOd’ with our football. Someone has to hit his knuckles b4 its too late!
Goals galore as zesco switch off nkana or nkana fail to break their zesco jinx in 8 goal thriller
Tough luck to my beloved “Kalamapa”.
Ant Nkana kind of reporting.why no reporting that Nkwzi taught Konkola blades a lesson? Nkana/ Zesco game was not a bashing or one team teaching the other a lesson but balanced despite Nkana allowing 5 Zesco also allowed 3..
The Zesco – Nkana match was a marvel ….it was a good advert of zambian footbal….8 goal thriller …quality game and pitch too…the scoreline was fair…i cant say the better side won..(obviously im a Kalampa fan)but the in form team carried the day…our defenders were really shakey….top 5 is the aim for kalampa….number 13 next season
I really enjoyed the game. how I wish all the teams in Zambian league would play like what I so at levy stadium.
