  1. FRED Mwila says Chipolopolo has a lot of young talent capable of repeating the 2012 AfCON feat if well motivated.

In an interview, the former Chipolopolo trainer said the current crop of players could win accolades for the country but needed a lot of encouragement from all stakeholders.

“We have a lot of young stars that can win the Africa Cup, rewrite Zambian football but they just need a lot of encouragement from all of us. We need to build on what we have,” Mwila said.

Mwila said having failed to win a medal at the recent CHAN tournament should not discourage the team going into next month’s AfCON qualifier against Congo Brazzaville.

“We need to put the CHAN loss behind and pick positives from there, that way we will be able to overcome any obstacles. Positivity is what we need,” said Mwila.

Chipolopolo hosts Congo Brazzaville on March 23 in Group E of the 2017 AfCON qualifiers, with the return leg scheduled for five days later.

Both teams are tied on four points in the group but Congo have a better goal difference.
Zambia were held to a goalless draw by Guinea Bissau in their opening fixture of the qualifiers last June, and later beat Kenya 2-1 in Nairobi in September.
Congo held Kenya 1-1 before beating Guinea Bissau 4-2.
