ZESCO Ndola Girls Retain Women’s Super League Title in Style

Defending champions ZESCO Ndola Girls sealed back-to-back ZPL Women’s Super League titles with a ruthless 7-0 demolition of Luyando Foundation Girls on Wednesday.

The emphatic victory moved ZESCO to 85 points — an unassailable tally with only a handful of matches remaining — confirming their dominance in Zambian women’s football for another season.

A clinical attacking display saw Avell Chitundu, Mercy Chipasula and Fridah Kabwe all score braces, while Eneless Phiri also got on the scoresheet in a one-sided contest.

Chitundu opened the scoring in the 20th minute before Chipasula doubled the lead nine minutes later. Two minutes after that, Chitundu grabbed her second of the afternoon with a close-range finish from an Eneless Phiri assist to make it 3-0.

Chipasula completed her brace just before the break, again assisted by Phiri, as the champions went into half-time with a commanding four-goal advantage.

ZESCO continued their relentless attacking display after the restart. Kabwe netted the fifth goal in the 47th minute from another Phiri assist before adding her second in the 60th minute after being set up by Thandiwe Ndhlovu.

Phiri then capped off an outstanding individual performance with a goal of her own in the 66th minute, converting from a Marjorie Mulenga assist to complete the rout.

Elsewhere, Green Buffaloes WFC secured a 2-0 away victory over Amazing Grace in Kabwe thanks to goals from Lydia Shamalima and Maylan Mulenga.

In Lusaka, The Elite Ladies and ZANACO Ladies shared the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Loveness Daka and Matildah Mukunda scored for Elite Ladies, while Tisilile Lungu and Regina Chanda — from the penalty spot — were on target for ZANACO Ladies.
