Zesco United on Thursday morning suffered a setback in the CAF champions league group stage when they lost 2 – 0 to Wydad Casablanca in Rabat.
A goal on either side of the half saw the Moroccans go top with two out of two wins in Group A.
The Zambians paid for some poor defending of set pieces when the defense failed to pick the striker who headed freely from a corner in the 11th minute to beat Lameck Nyangu in goal.
Zesco saw little site of goal in the first half and were punished further 6 minutes after the restart when David Odhiambo turned a cross into his own net.
18 year old Shemmy Mayembe had a torrid time at right back in the first half but he gave it his all in the second half with Zesco looking more settled.
The introduction of Jesse Were with about 20 minutes to play also added verve to the Zesco attack but with the Moroccan having taken the foot off the pedal allowing the Ndola side more time on the ball.
Mwape Mwelwa had the best chance after he was played through into the box but keeper stuck out his hand to stop the goal bound shot.
Zesco next host Asec Mimosa of Ivory Coast who moved into second position ahead of Zesco United (third) on goal difference.
The game will be played on 17th july, 2016.
Al Ahly remain stuck at the bottom of the log with no point in two games.

chama was sleeping ..chingandu was on drugs..Were is a starter not sub… aerial marking was zero
only chaila and akumu played soccer today
performance not bad..but who plays at 22 hrs ai
herve renard was watching..our national team coaches should follow suit
Ask any football expert in Europe on African teams’ biggest weakness and they’ll tell you, ” African teams don’t know how to defend.” We’ve seen over and over again how the Chipolopolo can’t defend a lead or how they easily concede from set pieces (corners and free quicks). It starts from club football and goes on to the national team. Parking the bus is an art and not a weakness. When you’re not Brazilians, football is about results not flair.
We can’t defend and that will be our undoing in this tournament. You can’t allow strikers having free headers at your goal and you are watching.
Zesco was using zonal marking instead of man to man marking at set pieces and they were not very good at it. Matthews Chaila had an exceptional match and played like Pirlo. He is far better than the midfielders like Paul Katema that Lwandamina prefers at the national team. That Zesco goalkeeper is also suspect.
All is not lost ZEGA just has to win all the home games and draw one away then they would be their way to the SEMIS
Zesco didnt play badly they just didnt take their chances. Mwape mwelwa should have scored the one on one chance he had….Jesse were missed a glorious header too but all in all Zesco are still very much in it with a shout. Home games a will be vital
As expected coz you can’t win with a useless goalkeeper
Chama is not a defender he needs more nshima to gain power he is to lighter. Bamichita bwino we dont want to see chama on the world cup qualifer.
Cletous Chama is good at taking freekicks & corners but he is lighter, looses balls easily he can do better than ths i thnk he can be a good option when it comes to featuring local players in the national team.
